stlcard25ParticipantWell, the Cards got punched in the mouth last night, but the good news is that it was only one game. That old war horse, Waino, will try to right the ship and get the Cards rolling again. Can he do it for the third time in the last few weeks? With Oviedo going in game 2, we need innings for insurance against some rust on Johan the Young’s silver arm. I think the Cards come out mad in this one after the Brewers dared to besmirch Yadi’s honor yesterday and hammer the Brew Crew, 7-0.
September 16, 2020 at 9:01 am #140314Not only were the Brewers mouthy last night but if the Cards are convinced the Brewers were cheating then the Brewer hitters might want to think about wearing a rib protector under their jersey today.
September 16, 2020 at 9:40 am #140318I think this may be a question for Augustus and our good friends over at the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau. Has a ML team ever played more innings of (I would love to insert the word “quality” right here, but that would not be entirely fitting) baseball over these past two weeks than our St. Louis Cardinals? Moving forward, this heavy workload should be an additional indicator in helping to judge our young talent.
September 16, 2020 at 12:22 pm #140325I hope the Cards come out with some emotion tonight. They have been playing so flat lately.
September 16, 2020 at 1:12 pm #140330I have great hopes for Waino tonight, but he can’t do it alone. He’ll need some help from the guys with the bats. We can’t just leave him standing out there in his BVDs like we did with KK the other day.
September 16, 2020 at 2:36 pm #140332Today’s roster moves. Detailed article coming. Molina will start today. Wong will not.
• Right-handed pitcher Johan Oviedo activated from the Injured List;
• Infielder Max Schrock recalled from the Alternate Training Site;
• Right-handed pitcher Junior Fernandez recalled from the Alternate Training Site.
• Optioned right-handed pitcher Nabil Crismatt to the Alternate Training Site;
• Optioned outfielder Lane Thomas to the Alternate Training Site;
• Left-handed pitcher Rob Kaminsky designated for assignment;
• Outfielder Justin Williams named 29th man for today’s double-header.September 16, 2020 at 2:44 pm #140338I am not surprised about Lane Thomas. He has struggled in all aspects.

stlcard25ParticipantWilliam gets a quick start. Can’t be much worse than what we’ve been doing lately.
STL Lineup
T Edman (S) 2B
P DeJong (R) SS
P Goldschmidt (R) 1B
B Miller (L) DH
M Carpenter (L) 3B
T O’Neill (R) LF
J Williams (L) RF
H Bader (R) CF
Y Molina (R) CSeptember 16, 2020 at 4:12 pm #140351Within the last week the Brewers have won a game 19-0 and 18-3 yet their overall run differential is still minus 18. That is hard to believe.
September 16, 2020 at 4:24 pm #140356
stlcard25ParticipantBrewers pick right back up where they left off with a fast 2 run HR. Waino behind 2-0.
September 16, 2020 at 4:28 pm #140358I break down today's seven player moves by the #stlcards, including roster and playing time ramifications, as well as Mike Shildt's comments on a number of others in this free article. https://t.co/YtqvcDxAY8

September 16, 2020 at 4:34 pm #140359Good to see O’Neill drive one out of the park. Cards trail 2-1. The homer is followed by Williams first hit as a Cardinal (also his first major league hit)!
September 16, 2020 at 4:34 pm #140360
stlcard25ParticipantO’Neill just about drives one out of the stadium.
Now Justin Williams with his first big league hit!
September 16, 2020 at 4:37 pm #140362
stlcard25ParticipantBader hit that pretty well, but it ricocheted directly to Gyorko standing on first for the inning ending out.
September 16, 2020 at 4:47 pm #140363Brian, your article mentions that there are three players still on the Covid IL. Fowler and Whitley are two. Who is the third?
September 16, 2020 at 5:00 pm #140365
jj-cf-stlParticipantNice D O’Neill
September 16, 2020 at 5:03 pm #140366
stlcard25ParticipantWaino looking solid. He’s given up some contact, but also has 5 Ks through 3. Most importantly, he looks like he will go 5-6 innings at least.
September 16, 2020 at 5:07 pm #140367Cards with an opportunity here. Need someone to do something.

Thanks for catching the mistake. Right after I said there are 42 on the roster, I said three instead of two and listed two names. It has been corrected.
September 16, 2020 at 5:14 pm #140372
stlcard25ParticipantCarp swung at an easy ball 4 and couldn’t drive the run in. Now up to O’Neill to try to get the run home.
September 16, 2020 at 5:15 pm #140373O’Neill gets his second RBI. Team needs Justin to keep things going.
September 16, 2020 at 5:15 pm #140374
stlcard25ParticipantO’Neill with the sac fly. Nicely done there. 2-2.
September 16, 2020 at 5:15 pm #140375Carpenter needed to go with that pitch, which was probably ball 4, rather than hooking it like he did. O’Neill showed how it’s done, taking that outside pitch the other way to plated the run.
September 16, 2020 at 5:16 pm #140376Well, Cards tied it up.
