Well, the Cards got punched in the mouth last night, but the good news is that it was only one game. That old war horse, Waino, will try to right the ship and get the Cards rolling again. Can he do it for the third time in the last few weeks? With Oviedo going in game 2, we need innings for insurance against some rust on Johan the Young’s silver arm. I think the Cards come out mad in this one after the Brewers dared to besmirch Yadi’s honor yesterday and hammer the Brew Crew, 7-0.
Not only were the Brewers mouthy last night but if the Cards are convinced the Brewers were cheating then the Brewer hitters might want to think about wearing a rib protector under their jersey today.
I think this may be a question for Augustus and our good friends over at the esteemed Elias Sports Bureau. Has a ML team ever played more innings of (I would love to insert the word “quality” right here, but that would not be entirely fitting) baseball over these past two weeks than our St. Louis Cardinals? Moving forward, this heavy workload should be an additional indicator in helping to judge our young talent.
I have great hopes for Waino tonight, but he can’t do it alone. He’ll need some help from the guys with the bats. We can’t just leave him standing out there in his BVDs like we did with KK the other day.

Good to see O’Neill drive one out of the park. Cards trail 2-1. The homer is followed by Williams first hit as a Cardinal (also his first major league hit)!

Bader hit that pretty well, but it ricocheted directly to Gyorko standing on first for the inning ending out.
Brian, your article mentions that there are three players still on the Covid IL. Fowler and Whitley are two. Who is the third?
Waino looking solid. He’s given up some contact, but also has 5 Ks through 3. Most importantly, he looks like he will go 5-6 innings at least.

Thanks for catching the mistake. Right after I said there are 42 on the roster, I said three instead of two and listed two names. It has been corrected.
Carp swung at an easy ball 4 and couldn’t drive the run in. Now up to O’Neill to try to get the run home.
Carpenter needed to go with that pitch, which was probably ball 4, rather than hooking it like he did. O’Neill showed how it’s done, taking that outside pitch the other way to plated the run.
