Its early to proclaim him but he does hit lefty. Makes him a good option.

That is the kind of behavior that should get Eddings at least suspended if not outright fired – but we all know it won’t.

It was quite the game to watch. It all started even earlier than the video above when the Cardinals made a challenge and lost the replay challenge. The way Eddings announced it was like he was saying “screw you Cardinals for wasting my time on this challenge.” Apparently, he was already upset at Ollie for something else prior and it just kept playing out again and again because Eddings kept doing something to provoke Ollie. As I said in a post above, you used to see this kind of ongoing spat happen but very rarely does it occur anymore. Eddings really ought to be fired for his conduct.

Umpires have good games, average games, and bad games just like players do but – when an umpire very clearly has a personal axe to grind with a manager and brings that shit into a game like Eddings did – yeah, some form of publicly announced discipline should be meted out.

    I doubt anything happens though.

I wonder if Eddings will continue to screw the Cardinals for the rest of the series?

Rincon worked hard to get to his ML debut only to have the moment stolen. That is too bad. Occasionally, a pitcher uniform violation is called out, but I think normally if the batter or his manager complains of a distraction for the batter. Such can be handled professionally with minimal incident. Perhaps Eddings will find it difficult to land any post season assignments. That is probably the most doable thing anyone can do about it without umpire’s union acquiescence.

I wasnt able to watch the game but heard about the umpire incident from my son today. The umpire should be suspended and fined. He cited unwritten rules. Its also an unwritten rule for no bat flips, showing up pitchers but we see that all the time anymore. I guess the batter called it out but maybe he should have told the batter that its the ball he should be concentrating on, not the guys hat. I guess you can see why guys cant hut anymore, they focus on the wrong stuff.

I don’t know what the rule is on how a player is supposed to wear his hat but if Rincon was doing it wrong I would think the umpire could have said something in a more subtle way or said something to the catcher instead of making a spectacle of it and making an a** of himself. Maybe Manfred and his goons could look into that instead of beating their head into the wall over a salary cap.
