Yesterday’s 5th loss in a row marked the first time this season that the Cardinals had lost more than 4 consecutive games. They’ll try to avoid 6 in a row this afternoon against an Orioles team that’s now situated at 2.5 games off the pace for the final ALWC berth.
Cardinals have selected Cade Winquest from Memphis. Peter Strzelecki goes on the IL with right forearm extensor inflammation. 40-man is full.

A nice try last night after it looked like yet another blowout. The early 7-0 deficit had us outscores by a 26-1 margin over the last 12 frames. But we sucked it up and made it a contest. That was the kind of game we would have likely pulled out of the fire in the first half when we were sort of charmed, but reality bites.
When Kitty came in the Lovely Lady Bike saw him and said, “That is some beard that guy has.” I don’t see how you can play sports with a beard like that, but I guess pitching an inning here are there you can deal with encumbrances.
Speaking of hair, between Gassy and Stanek we can probably supply enough strands to make a dozen toupee’s. Those guys keep Proctor & Gamble’s stock healthy with all the hair products they consume.

I’m excited to see Winquest. His underlying data to me points out he will pitch for quite a few years in the pen. We will see if he can go from a middle RP career outcome I predict now or if he can keep improving and become a back of the pen guy at some point.
Madame CiF and I are about to sit down to a din-din of lamb chops, brown rice and a lettuce, tomato and onion salad. No dessert planned. I suppose we’ll just pop open one of those store-bought chocolate puddings cups out of the fridge while our birds agitate their arms wildly in an effort to regain the surface.

My din din was a ballpark brat with a side of nachos washed down with an ice cold coca cola! Dessert was a Bavarian pretzel to finish it off, for now!
Everyone chases now and then, but Gorman chased 3 consecutive carbon copy off speed deliveries that were down and in at the laces of his cleats.
The Cardinals are 11th in the NL for the second consecutive season regarding attendance. Last season was the first time they’ve placed that lower than 8th in my lifetime. In fact, I went all the way back to ’45 and couldn’t find another season in which they placed lower than 6th at a time when there were only 8 NL teams. Willie Jr. had better start selling more of those imitation roast beef sandwiches.
The box score shows attendance today 20,723, which is tickets sold. From what I could see on the telecast, there probably weren’t 10,000 actually there. Would have been a good game to buy the cheapest seat you could and work your way down.
I’d guess that if you waited until the 2nd or 3rd inning there’d be a decent chance to saunter on in free of charge with the skinny turnout we’ve seen the past couple of seasons. Many times during my younger days of yore, I walked into Busch Memorial during the latter 3 innings or in extras without as much as a second look from the gatekeepers. Back then, when you actually had to score unassisted runs after the 9th, extra innings often times provided 8 or 9 innings of bonus baseball.
Another day, another game blown. Oh wait, we held on – snapped the five game losing skid.
I watched a little, but had stuff to do around here so mostly dialed up the radio broadcast. Nice to see the Blazer crank one. Did not really understand the Urias signing – did in that Gorman was not exactly a known quantity, didn’t in that we are in a rebuild mode so why did that matter. But he helped today.
If we were closer in the NL Central or Wild Card I would be in favor of picking up Eugene Suarez. He would have to be a better 3rdbaseman and hitter than either Gorman or Jordan.
It’s hard to believe that O’Riley O’Brien is the NL SV’s leader while featuring a 3.95 ERA. To put that in perspective, Miller and Duran of the Padres and Phillies place 2nd and 3rd in the NL SV category while featuring respective ERA’s of 0.96 and 1.71.
If you wanted to illustrate what it means to pitch in regards to the art of keeping hitters off stride by changing speed and location, you’d paint a portrait of Chris Sale. Come to think of it, Yamamoto wouldn’t be a bad textbook example either…1-0 Braves over the Dodgers after 6 full.
