August 11, 2026 at 3:14 pm #315882I saw that Mo fired Mike Maddux. Have to blame somebody.
August 11, 2026 at 3:55 pm #315883
KeepComingBackParticipantYou think Maddux was happy when Mo rode into town?
August 11, 2026 at 3:55 pm #315884My guess it is a part of modernization of pitching instruction. Like what the Cardinals are doing or not, but I am pretty sure that no other MLB team has had fewer pitching injuries at the MLB level than StL the last few years. It is not likely coincidence.
August 11, 2026 at 3:58 pm #315886
KeepComingBackParticipantI’m hoping some of the fa pitchers we could be interested in see it like that too.
August 11, 2026 at 4:00 pm #315887KCB, that may be one of the positives of the May signing and tenure. A promising guy with a long history of injury stayed on the field for four months at least and started to show his potential.
August 11, 2026 at 4:50 pm #315893Our lack of major league pitching injuries has been amazing. Quite frankly it is probably the big reason why this team has been able to be competitive this long this season. I just wish it would translate more to our minor league pitchers.
August 11, 2026 at 5:06 pm #315894Dustin May cited the lack of arm injuries in 2025 amongst the Cardinals pitching staff as part of why he wanted to play for the Cardinals. I’d love to know what the Cardinals are doing differently from other teams here.

Agree 1000%. But also, many of the top shelf minor league injured guys had “preexisting conditions”, but not all.
Kyle and I just finished recording tomorrow’s podcast and we talked about managing workloads in the minors as one factor.

cardsfan64ParticipantFrom the transaction page:
08/11/26 – Tampa Bay Rays signed free agent RHP Jake Woodford to a minor league contract.
I hope Tampa’s pitching guru’s can help Woodford.
August 12, 2026 at 9:05 am #315953Jake is like a cat with nine lives!
August 12, 2026 at 1:02 pm #315960Can never have enough pitching. Might be the most job secure vocation in professional sports.

August 12, 2026 at 3:28 pm #315972They let Miles hang on long enough to get 10 years service time. Not that he needed the money and benefits.
August 12, 2026 at 3:49 pm #315973That way he’s eligible for the Hall of Fame

cardsfan64ParticipantNames you might remember:
08/14/26 – Texas Rangers selected the contract of LHP Marco Gonzales from Round Rock Express.
08/14/26 – Detroit Tigers signed free agent CF Michael Siani to a minor league contract.
08/14/26 – Washington Nationals released RHP Miles Mikolas.August 14, 2026 at 11:20 pm #316147Hard for me why Siani can’t get a job. No, he can’t hit for power. But he sure plays hard.

ParticipantI think its good they did that for mikolas. I think his time may be done. He was a really good pitcher for us for a good while. My memory isnt good anymore but i can still remember them signing him out of the foreign league he was in and how happy he was. I wish him well.
August 15, 2026 at 12:42 pm #316200Sorry I can’t agree with you on this, 1982 willie.
Taking some money away from the general pension fund to give to Mikolas is absurd, IMO. He’s already got enough money for himself, his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, etc. He doesn’t need more.

cardsfan64ParticipantPer the transaction page:
08/15/26 – Indianapolis Indians activated LHP Evan Sisk.
08/15/26 – Tampa Bay Rays optioned RHP Chris Roycroft to Durham Bulls.
08/15/26 – Texas Rangers designated LHP Marco Gonzales for assignment. (that didn’t last long!)August 18, 2026 at 10:38 am #316479In the small world department, one of the players in the upcoming Little League Baseball World Series is Kinley Rasmus. Her dad is ex-MLB pitcher Cory Rasmus and former #stlcards OF Colby Rasmus is her uncle. Both dad and uncle also played in the LLBWS for Phenix City, Alabama.

KeepComingBackParticipantI read something about Trevor Condons dad and sister being his hitting coaches. Made me think about Colby and Tony Rasmus. Not really in a good way.
August 18, 2026 at 8:02 pm #316501I didn’t mention our former forum member RCWarrior in my tweet, but I thought about it! 😉

Tony didn’t like him seeking outside help. IIRC he was hitting well when that story got floated.
