Really interesting question. Who is helping who? Gorman is a known threat so even though his numbers don’t show it, I would expect pitchers to be more careful with him and take their chances going after Whalen. If that theory holds, then Whalen may be getting better pitches to hit.
Then again, as word gets out that both are hitting well, then pitchers may decide to pitch to Gorman. Still, I’d be more careful with Nolan.
Either way, Whalen is doing damage with whatever pitches he is seeing for the first time in his career, while Gorman is basically repeating what he did last season at JC.
