There is indeed a drop off, but plenty of time to recover, barring a slew of injuries. Project the upper level guys over the next number of years – Martinez, Wacha, Reyes, Flaherty, Weaver, Gant, Gomber, Poncedeleon, Helsley, Hudson,
Woodford, etc. Mayers could possibly be converted back to a starter and Mikolas could possibly be extended. Roberts and Gingery could move through the system fast. Maybe Herget, Gonzales, Greene or Jones will rise to the occasion.
Expect, however, they’ll draft heavy on high floor college starting pitchers in 2019.
