I like the idea of moving JMart to the AL but I’m 99% sure it won’t happen during this season. Perhaps it would be a possibility in the offseason.
I really like the idea of doubling down on defense, pitching, and defense. In the offseason I would explore trades for both JMart and Pham as they both might have some appeal to other teams since they are relatively cheap although starting to creep up on the age scale.
If we had an IF defense of Carp, Wong, DeJong, and Gyroko with an OF defense of Ozuna, Bader, and O’Neill/Fowler that would be a pretty good defensive team although we might not score much. We could try to add another lockdown bullpen piece like Hand and maybe another rotation piece like Archer and see how many 2-1 and 3-2 games we could win next year. To me, that makes more sense than trying to play fielders where they don’t belong just to scratch out a few more hits. The key is run prevention!
This plan would only be for a year or two as guys like Carp, Wong, Gyroko, Ozuna, Yadi, and Fowler all have expiring contracts within 2-3 years anyway then we can bring in a different fielding group. Maybe Adolis Garcia, Arozarena, Mercado, Gorman, and Baker will be ready by then.
