Between the holidays and my efforts to save the franchise over on the open forum, I am getting behind with the top prospects. Cho has been under my radar, mostly due to being a teenager in rookie ball. But now he is the #12 prospect, so he appeared in my world out of nowhere. I was very happy to read the detailed reports from Blake and Brian. Among the wealth of detail, two things stood out. The silky smooth bat flip, and Brian’s thought that LF is in Cho’s future. The bat flip because, as Blake alluded, there nothing more wonderful to watch than baseball being played gracefully. The left field is more concerning, given that power has yet to emerge. OBP driven batting line was mentioned. The dreaded OBP exceeding SLG looms as a possibility, which would send him off to a guru to get “fixed”, a la Brendan Donovan.
It seems funny that he is so aggressive on the base path and not real aggressive at the plate. It suggests that his approach at the plate may not be his nature, but rather patience imposed as a tool in his development.
He is physically bigger than I had imagined, probably due to some archaic subliminal stereotype of which I am embarrassed. He strikes me as sort of a potential Noot as a best case. That would be something. For whatever reason, I sense that he could become a fast mover, maybe because of the smoothness which got Blake’s attention. Overall, an exciting prospect that I am happy to become more aware of.
