Continuing with the comment just above, I had dropped Paniagua down my list not just due to the results and lack of progress in 2023, but a further drop due to the risk of possibly not being able to be effective pitching in a way his shoulder can tolerate. I feel like he needs to re-establish that he can get guys out without blowing up his shoulder. I am not sure if it is correct to look at it that way, but I do. At another level, I followed the same thinking about a guy like Hudson, who had shoulder trouble. When he got back on the mound, he spent considerable time not being very effective. Then he rather quickly picked it up. I have to wonder if he finally reverted to the form that got him there as a last ditch effort. That added a considerable element of risk with him, so I was ok with the decision to move on.
