He isn’t going to get $70M a year although the CBT may be figured that way. Most of the money is deferred. The Dodgers may be paying him for 50 years. I guess they figure they will at least break even with all of the marketing dollars he brings in. Of course you also have to factor in that you are buying the best hitter in MLB and the best pitcher in MLB. $350M for each I guess.
Ohtani deal with Dodgers, per source, includes “unprecedented” deferrals – the majority of his salary. The deferrals were Ohtani’s idea to ease the Dodgers’ luxury-tax and cash flow burdens to give the team the flexibility needs to be as competitive as possible, the source said.
