On the DH question, I hope no one gets pigeonholed there. Gorman and Montero would be far less interesting if they cannot handle the hot corner or at least first base. The fact that Baker was not invited to summer camp is not a good sign. I wish the system had more pure hitters, but I cannot think of any….

Yeah, I would think that Gorman will be given every chance to stay at 3B, and if his power is what the team still seems to think it is (from the tiny report about he and Walker being the class of the power bats at the Springfield camp), they will find a place for him somewhere. Montero might actually be a solid 1B player if he’s OK at 3B but is beat out by Gorman. The little problem over there is Paul Goldschmidt, so it would seem to be corner OF or DH for him. Of course, his 20219 injury and missing a year in the minors in 2020 took some luster off his prospect shine. I wonder about Baker, too. He started to hit late in the 2019 season at Palm Beach. It made me curious how he would handle a step up to Springfield and more friendly confines. He seemed to be a potential right handed Matt Adams. The Cards didn’t see a need to send him to the summer camp, or, well…couldn’t fit him in the 60. I hope he comes out and keeps hitting like he did late in 2019.

Thanks for scanning your brain as well. The elite hitting types all seem to either flounder in St Louis or get talked away as sample size/PCL noise and we can’t seem to get that consistent 120 wRC+ or better bat that we need badly. There’s a lot of hopes pinned on Carlson and Gorman right now.
