Brett Cecil says lower arm slot makes him feel more competitive. Used it in college to loosen up, but got away from it as a pro to focus on job. Tried it 1 1/2 weeks before coming from FL to StL in a bullpen. Surprised himself with firmness and movement. Had thrown it with Mikolas in FL. Maddux encouraged them to use the downtime wisely. He went even further.
Felt today was good first impression. Feels it gives him best opportunity to compete. Is not going to go back and forth between the two motions. Expects to pitch this way the this rest of career.
Breaking ball will be more slider/slurve vs. over the top. Made a few adjustments last few days with Maddux. Good feedback from him.
Threw two bullpens prior. Today was first vs. live hitters.
If he could get one accomplishment this year it would be to win World Series. Personally, get in 20-25 games if lucky and do his job.

Miles Mikolas said Cecil has good stuff from down there. Good movement. Hits me in chest (when playing catch), which I like.
For himself, throwing today gave last bit of adrenaline, with guys in the box. Pleased with today. Threw two innings, and was done in less than 40 pitches. Wants to go 3/50 next time and would like to get to 50 even if he throws afterward.
Tomorrow will be workout and run, with bullpen in a couple of days.
Had seen Martinez in and out of Jupiter complex before. Last one for him to have seen in StL. Good to see him.
