I would think that it doesn’t cost more than $1M to operate both DSL teams, and maybe a little more for the rest of the work they do in Latin America. There are 10 prospects in the TCN top 30 that have come through the DSL. Seven were signed first by the Cardinals. Because of the Cardinals’ rather strong presence in the DSL and Latin America, the 3 who were acquired from another team were no doubt scouted well. You’d have to say that the Cardianls’ presence in Latin America is working well for the organization. It’s pretty evident that it would be tough for any MLB team to survive without this pipeline. Hopefully, we’ll get an elite prospect out of this eventually.
