How Bad was the First-Half St. Louis Cardinals Offense?

nice post, brian. it is interesting and perplexing at the same time. the thing is even ozuna and dejong have had lengthy periods this year where they have struggled hence I guess they have only been average to slightly above average. I do agree with the article that guys like bader, fowler, and wong should never had been counted upon being any kind of consistent offensive threats. fowler has been better than last year, wong has had good momemts, and though I wish bader had worked on pitch recognition more and cut down on strikeouts, defensively he has still been great. considering we have a solid pitching staff, we cant give up on defense especially when the offense of other players hasn’t blown off any doors. it really comes down to carpenter and goldshmidt. if they don’t improve, I don’t see how we can compete. maybe even add yadi to that mix. those guys are really the key. you have to start wondering about the hitting coaches at this point and maybe shildt himself. it was a rushed hire for him just like it was a rushed new contract for goldy. maybe the guys will com eout of it but it isn’t a given.
