Josiah Viera, the young man who had served as the State College Spikes honorary bench coach for the past few seasons and inspired so many, has passed away. The 14-year old was just 27 inches tall and weighed 15 pounds due to a rare genetic disease called Progeria, which caused premature aging.

Here is a television story about Josiah and his impact on the Spikes.

Wow, that is inspirational — the example he set for others. From that video, it’s clear that his was a life well-lived and he played his dealt hand to the fullest.

I think it’s not simply the case of wishful thinking, but I firmly believe that most all will pass this way again. And I believe individuals who were dealt such a challenging hand as Josiah was, will be blessed with 4 aces in their next go around. For Josiah, I think it’s a vibrant major league career, a wonderful wife, fantastic health and best of all……a fistfull of happy children and grandchildren who all are fortunate enough to stay out of harm’s way their entire lives. Come back quick Josiah!!!
