Today by 8 p.m. ET is when arbitration-eligible players whose teams do not want to pay/keep them next season learn their immediate career fate. A number of name-brand guys are going to become instant free agents.
The first to go is Billy Hamilton of the Reds. A .299 OBP over the last two seasons can do that to a guy who has such speed, he could be a great leadoff man. If only he could get on base…
As mentioned on the Cubs thread, Chicago is keeping Addison Russell despite his off-field problems.
Feel free to post others here as you see the announcements.
November 30, 2018 at 2:52 pm #75459Danny Salazar of Cleveland is one that they are speculating might be non-tendered due to injuries and payroll.
November 30, 2018 at 2:54 pm #75461If that happens, Salazar could be a nice gamble for some team.
November 30, 2018 at 2:56 pm #75463Like the Cardinals?
November 30, 2018 at 3:11 pm #75464Ok, so, what exactly does it mean that someone is non-tendered?

November 30, 2018 at 3:14 pm #75465It means they didn’t offer a one year contract to the arbitration-eligible player and that player becomes a free agent
November 30, 2018 at 3:48 pm #75468looks like Billy Hamilton will be non tendered too… baffling they couldnt find someone to give them ANYTHING for a guy who is a gamechanger even as a pinch runner and defense first backup OFer
He is as safe a bet for a free run in an extra inning game if you can get anyone on and then bring him in and let him run, 0 or 1 out he can get to 3rd on almost every catcher and pitcher if you get him in
and even though he doesnt hit well, it’s not like he is the worst hitter in baseball
I wonder if Cleveland scoops him up from FA as their OF is a mess
November 30, 2018 at 3:52 pm #75469jager, please check posts above.
The White Sox non-tendered IF Matt Davidson and OF Avisail Garcia. Both have had ups and downs.
November 30, 2018 at 3:56 pm #75470thanks…sorry Brian
November 30, 2018 at 4:08 pm #75471Didn’t the non tender date used to be after the rule 5 draft?
November 30, 2018 at 4:20 pm #75473A surprise.
We’ve non-tendered Wilmer Flores. #Mets

November 30, 2018 at 4:23 pm #75474CC, my recollection is non-tenders were usually due around December 2 and Rule 5 is always the final day of Winter Meetings, which is held in the second week of December.
November 30, 2018 at 4:27 pm #75475Supposedly the Brewers are going to non-tender Jonathan Schoop. I haven’t seen anything official yet.

jj-cf-stlParticipantIf I have Hamiltons blistering speed, I’m bunting once a game, at least.
Billy has 158 PA’s that ended with a bunt attempt. Not even 6% of his total PA’s.
5% is what, 1 in 20 Pa’s? Once every 4 games? Not enough for someone who needs to lift his bat value.
November 30, 2018 at 4:43 pm #75477Brewers non-tender Dan Jennings LP-might be worth looking at for bullpen.
November 30, 2018 at 5:06 pm #75478I’ve read for years that Hamilton is going to bunt more. Here is an article with the data.

November 30, 2018 at 5:22 pm #75480INF/OF Hernán Pérez and INF Tyler Saladino have signed 1-year contracts, avoiding arbitration. INF Jonathan Schoop, LHP Xavier Cedeño and LHP Dan Jennings have been non-tendered. pic.twitter.com/MKfl5Oukmt

jj-cf-stlParticipantI can still see Rod Carew bunting. Now that was a joy to watch.
November 30, 2018 at 5:36 pm #75483The #STLCards have reached an agreement with left-handed reliever Chasen Shreve, who was arbitration eligible, on a one-year contract for 2019. The club has also tendered contracts to all remaining players on its 40-man roster for the 2019 season. pic.twitter.com/b4zMPNgayE

November 30, 2018 at 6:16 pm #75487Many of us thought Chasen Shreve would be non-tendered by the #stlcards. Instead, he has come to terms on a one-year deal. My guess as to what happened and its potential impact on the 2019 roster. (free) https://t.co/g38xWWzbjs pic.twitter.com/5QHg9Te1kW

November 30, 2018 at 6:53 pm #75492Another once very good pitcher whose velocity is reportedly down.
Source: Angels to non-tender Blake Parker.

November 30, 2018 at 7:25 pm #75496If Kelly is traded, McCann would be a decent reserve.
The #Tigers announced today that the club will not tender a contract for the 2019 season to catcher James McCann and right-handed pitcher Alex Wilson. https://t.co/0h4LL1WKXe

52.2 IP

27 BBsIf he can gain more control, he can be an effective weapon. Maddux must have wanted him back.
December 1, 2018 at 9:46 am #75537Shelby Miller was non-tendered by the Diamondbacks…
I think of the relief pitchers, I’d be most interested in Hunter Strickland and Dan Jennings (LHP)…
If you’re looking for a backup catcher with positional flexibility, I’d go with Chris Herrmann, who can also play corner outfield (what?????)…
