After three-plus days of a forum-only outage, the entire The Cardinal Nation site has been restored to its last backup, taken on November 10. We are back and have a plan going forward.
Have you seen commercials for the new television series, “Manifest,” in which an entire airplane full of people disappears and reappears five years later? Perhaps you are among the many who watch the show regularly.
Well, this website has experienced its own version of being lost in time. Effective late Friday afternoon, November 16, the entire site been restored to its level of November 10. That means the last seven days basically did not happen here.
However, unlike the show’s cast, I can assure you I have aged considerably during our “missing” period, while caught in a technical support nightmare.
I regret your many lost posts on our message forums, but the problem was not getting fixed, so I had to make the call to restore the site to a backup taken before the most recent problems. (If this does not prove to be stable, going back to November 6 is my “Plan B”. That is prior to the first outage. Hopefully that will not be necessary.)
While we were able to get the main site back up relatively quickly earlier this week and continued to add new content as usual, the forums had been down since Tuesday. That delay is unacceptable. Once we can get the site stable and through the Thanksgiving holiday, I will be exploring new hosting options to try to avoid this glacially-slow support in the future.
I will be working non-stop to reload all the stories, images and related audio one by one that were posted during that time, of which there are 21 or 22 separate articles. For those who subscribed or renewed your membership this past week, I will ensure your paid-for time is covered and your subscription continues uninterrupted.
