Winning the series is nice, but now is a good time to get greedy and pull off the sweep. Match is favorable to do just that. Carry the bat momentum forward.

Gotta club the rookie Braves hurler here. A sweep, especially right now, goes a long way toward securing a playoff spot.

If Carpenter could hit anywhere but leadoff, Wong would be a great option to start things off with the way he’s hit in the second half. He’s hit .329/.387/.486 since July 1.

That’s a nice OBP for Wong. Carp needs more days off. But today off and tomorrow off day should help him.

It feels like Freeman is hitting 1.000 off the Cards this year, but Jack works around the single.

Touki Toussaint is extremely wild so far, walking nearly a batter per inning…yet the Cards are swinging wildly thus far. Need to be more patient.

Jack is dealing aces early on…4 Ks through two.

    pitchers duel so far

both sides seem sleepy with the quick turnaround from last night

When will Gallegos be joining the club?

blah…barely single single and the Freeman bomb to take the lead…. 2-0

why do we ever pitch to Freeman any more

gotta score runs to win so our bats have to wake up

The difference between Flaherty and an elite pitcher is the bout of homeritis that has plagued him all season. He will have to overcome that to become what we all are hoping he can be.

Also, don’t @$_*!? pitch to Freeman!

Flaherty falling apart. Freeman is at the plate with a chance to put the game out of reach.

The Cards are 2-4 in their last 6 chances to sweep a series. Seems like a mental letdown thing to me.

Flaherty out. The stupidity of pitching to Freeman is his undoing. Maybe that’s more on Shildt.

Homer king Shreve is his replacement.

Falling apart? come on… he hasnt been his best but falling apart seems pretty drastic

Freeman has got to him whether at the plate or on deck… other than that an unfortunate wild pitch is all that has really mattered

he is out in the bottom of the 5th

i thought Adams shoudl have let that throw go through a play at the plate from Jmart on the Freeman single…i dunno…

still lots of baseball left today

    Go Cards!

You can argue word semantics all you want but the fact is we needed him to step up today and he couldn’t get through the 5th. He didn’t pitch well after the first inning and the strategy of him pitching to Freeman was very poor.

Doesn’t mean the game is over, but you don’t get to call it anything good when you get out pitched by a rookie with a 1:1 K: BB ratio.

Cards have something brewing in the 6th…two on but two out. Yadi needs to come through here.

That he does!! Single to left makes it 5-2. Adams up with a chance to make it a tighter ballgame.

i didnt say he was good today all i said is that he wasnt “falling apart”…and almost every pitcher is poor against Freeman, and that strategy you speak of isnt only his call or formulation

he wasnt really all that off except to Freeman the last 2 ABs

we didn’t NEED him to step up…he is allowed to have a so so game

we dont HAVE to win every game all the way out…it woudl have been nice yes…but if our discussion about how well they are playing is dictated on them HAVINg to win every single game otherwise they are bad then that just isnt fair to the team nor the situation they are in right now

you can try to sluff it off as semantics but it doesnt make it any less important to keep things in perspective when discussing the games or the play in them

as for getting out-pitched by a rookie….well Jack is a rookie too… and Touki is no no-name rookie without a pretty impressive pedigree…not to mention the Cardinals seem to always have a hard time with facing pitchers they havent seen before…

the TEAM needed to step up today IF they wanted a sweep…Jack coudl have done better and so could everyone else on the team in this game

it’s 5-1 in the 6th…..we have 2 on with Yadi up and he drives in 1…now it’s 5-2…with the tying run at the plate…

we may lose this one, we come back and win it…we may come back and lose it too… but today isnt the whole season and IMO we shouldnt act like every game is the last game of the season…at least not yet

While I sit here picking between Wisdom and O’Neill…Adams stays to face the lefty

Adams hits one hard, but the shift takes it away…still 5-2.

What makes this game feel more in reach is the Braves’ battered bullpen of late. I feel confident that the Cards will score at least two more, but it will be up to our bullpen to hold the Braves and the offense will need more timely hits.

Their bullpen is bound to have a good day. We had chances we just didn’t cash in.
