Cards Blue win and clinch the Boca Chica South division. Back to back doubles by Pablo Gomez and Darlin Moquete gets the go ahead run and Anthony Trompiz and Leanardo Taveras close out the 9th. 2-1 final
Back to back 2 out doubles in the 9th score the winning run as the Cards win and clinch the division, 2-1.

Tomorrow’s regular season finale still has meaning for the DSL Cardinals Blue since they are competing with the DSL Rays1 for the final first-round bye slot – DSL Colorado has already clinched one of the two slots.
All three teams won today. Currently, the C-Blue have the second best record. The only way they don’t get the bye is if they lose and the DSL Rays1 win tomorrow.
Here’s hoping for another win.
The Peoria game must have been a continuation from an earlier game? The box score shows Elehuris Montero still.
Anyway, Oviedo with a nice game, throwing 7.1 innings of shutout ball in the 10-0 win.
Oh, and that Gorman kid went 3-4 with two homers. He’s pretty exciting.
Watching the highlights of the Peoria game for Norman…his first homer was a 107 mph rocket out to right. His second looked like he just threw the bat at it (the video wasn’t great so maybe it was better) and the ball just sailed out to left.

Yes, Peoria resumed the July 1 suspended game before the regular one. Since it began as nine innings, it was finished that way, but the regular game, essentially Game 2 of the doubleheader, is just seven innings.
With Mikolas dealing, this 7 run 5th inning lead looks pretty darn good…knock on wood….as long as the Rockies don’t start knocking on too much wood.
I remember that game when they suspended it. Both Plummer and Yariel homered and up until now their stats didn’t reflect it.
Leandro Cedeno hit is 13th HR pushing his season OPS to over 1.000. He just turned 20 two days ago. Any chance he starts in Peoria? He’s listed on milb.com as a 1b, but he’s played mostly corner OF for JC. It seems his position flexibility would help starting next season in full season ball. The only real struggle he’s had at the plate is with SOs, but he walks just enough to keep his OBP respectable. I don’t have a clue about the quality of his defense.
I would like Gorman to Start at Peoria next year and then be moved to Palm Beach when he improves his K rate and other area’s. If the team would let him know in advance he could settle in a bit knowing where he’s going. Oh and be on the Caravan!
FWIW, Cedeno has been listed as an OF here all season. I only saw him play there in EST and my looks were limited. I bet Gorman will be on the Caravan, but which one?
State College had its greatest comeback ever after being down 7-0 in the first inning. Lars Nootbaar had seven RBI. They are only 1 1/2 games out of the wild card.
Speaking of State College, has the NYPL always been such a tough hitting environment? Looking at some numbers, as bad a go as Delvin Perez has had at it this year, his .578 OBP equates to a 80 wRC+, which isn’t as horrid as I thought it would be. Nick Dunn had a .760 OPS, which was a 125 wRC+. There’s a young man named Tyler Freeman running away with the batting average title and OPS crown, but the second place person in OPS is at .841.
The league used to have a club in Jamestown NY which is near me so there were always some chances to go to games.
This data is old but basically, STL has minor league affiliates in 4 of the 5 toughest leagues for hitters (FSL, GCL, NYPL, MW).

But remember, any distorted negative for our hitters due to the league is a distorted positive for our hitters.
SC just keeps winning. They lost Dunn and Toerner to promotions and their lineup has just Espinal and Figuera as the only threats now.(11th out of 14 in the NYP league). Machado was just added from JC. Gorman, Baker and Riley skipped right over SC, so no help there.
The pitching is 4th in the league. After losing Dahlberg and Rondon to Peoria, plus Voyles to injury the new look rotation has shown some signs of success with Schlesener, Kraus, Cordero and Casadilla, who recently returned.
It is somewhat amazing that this team that was 19-29 on Aug 4th is now 34-32 and has a shot at the wild-card. Eerie stuff going on there.
Leandro Cedeno reminds me a lot of Jimmy Wynn, except that Leandro is much larger physically, TheLonleyBull. I saw him make a spectacular diving catch for JC this year that would absolutely knock your socks off. My guess would be that young Leandro is going to be quite a defensive asset. He celebrated a birthday just a few days ago…for those of you who may have overlooked it. Cedeno….Gorman…..Nunez…..if these guys aren’t ML All Stars one day I’ll eat my hat. P.S. … I still think the name “TheLonleyBull” totally rocks and wish I had staked claims on it first. Not to be a copycat, but maybe I could change mine to “TheLonleyLonleyBull” …..if Brian would allow it??
I only saw Cedeno at first base and he looked good there in limited action. He is a big guy. Last year had 4 home runs in his first 9 games at the GCL and then went down with a season ending injury. This year he hit 4 home runs in his first 7 games. I think he will start at Peoria next year.

With the DSL season ending today, Malcom Nunez won the league Triple Crown despite missing nearly half the season due to being a July 2nd signing. He finished the year hitting .415 with 13 homers and 59 RBI. #STLCards
