Baker rapped a double in his first at bat in full season ball. That Peoria lineup looks pretty solid overall.
Tyler O’Neill hits his 3rd homer today Memphis up 7-4 in the 8th inning.When is the FO going to give him a real chance instead of screwing around with Fowler/Pham?
Bw, I think Ozuna is the one who’s in need of replacement. Fowler has at least shown some signs of life lately and Pham as well. I’d be in favor of trading at least one and maybe two of them and giving O’Neill a shot by next year at the latest.
Not to get lost in the shuffle…Seijas had one of the better starts of his career for Peoria today. 6 innings, one run, 3 walks, 9 Ks. He and Oviedo represent what the Cards were I’m sure hoping was the solution to the “donut” in pitching talent in the system..which is more like a donut with a bite out of it right now with no real back end (DSL/GCL/Rookie ball) sure things either. If either of those guys keeps building on their better work of late and develops some more, they could have legit upside.
25-I doubt Ozuna is going anywhere.I think he gets a mulligan because I think there is a shoulder injury or another injury he is keeping silent about(as is the team).Fowler is untraceable…
So the logical move is trading Pham because he is older,has injury and eye issues.Bader,O’Neill,Mercado are the future.Fowler is stuck here unless some fool team wants him and Cards probably eat a large chunk of his salary.Ozuna cost the Cards several prospects so I really doubt the Cards will give up on him after less than 100 games.If we could get a guy with upside for Pham, I suppose I might consider it. Personally I’d rather not have Ozuna right now and have an OF of O’Neill-Bader-Pham (from left to right) and Mercado as backup. I’d guess neither of us will get our wish though.
25-you are probably right.I hope the FO doesn’t fart around nothing very little.That said I is probably exactly what will happen.FO will trade for LH arm for the pen and continue hoping Fowler remembers how to play baseball and everyone else gets healthy and contributes.
No one seems to think Voit can help at the major league level, but he had another crazy AAA game today – 4 out 5.
@bccran – are you arguing that Voit is an upgrade over Carpenter?
Because in the outfield, yes, everybody is arguing Bader is an upgrade over Fowler and most believe O’Neill is an upgrade over Ozuna.
And if you look at who is leading Memphis in OPS – it’s O’Neill
No, Voit is not better than Carp. Nor Bader. But he could probably be helpful to some lower tier MLB teams.

Some good pitching today. Seijas, Shew, Memphis pen except for Beck. Dahlberg and Aker. Springfield bullpen looking much better with the addition of Fernandez and Gonzalez.
I like O’Neil a lot but now is not the time to bring him up ( watch the Cardinals do just that) with Shildt needing to make decisions on his current group. I think O’Neil can eventually be a big time game changer but he has to do a better job managing the strike zone. He was totally helpless by the time he was sent back down after his big splash earlier in the season.
Only 1 K in his last 15 official at bats. 3 in 19 since returning to the team. Great progress. That will get him to St. Louis soon. Then when he gets there he has to stay within himself and not try to do too much. If he hits it solid it will go with his tremendous strength.
Good point, Sooner. You have to hope that each time up, O’Neill will get more comfortable sticking with the approach that is serving him so well at Memphis.
Don’t forget that Budaska is now hitting coach along with Greer in St. Louis. Until they decide to move on from Fowler it wouldn’t pay to bring him up.
Woodall at it again. 2 for 4 with a homer and 3 RBI. Wish they would promote him to SC or Peoria to see how he can do against a little older players.
