The St. Louis Cardinals system was 3-7 on Wednesday. DSL Cardinals Blue and Red both split doubleheaders. Memphis was off due to the Triple-A All Star Game. Our Player of the Day is DSL Red outfielder Adanson Cruz, who went 5-for-6, including three doubles and a home run, plus a walk, a stolen base and five RBI.

Memphis – Triple-A All-Star Game – Pacific Coast League 12, International League 7
The Redbirds did not have a regularly scheduled game due to the playing of the Triple-A All-Star Game. Memphis had three players named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star Team, which took on their International League counterparts in Columbus, OH on Wednesday. Redbirds participating were pitchers Dakota Hudson and Daniel Poncedeleon, and third baseman Patrick Wisdom. The PCL team won, 12-7.
PCL starting pitcher Hudson pitched one inning and gave up one run on three hits. Hudson was the winning pitcher. Poncedeleon was third up, following an inning by Omaha pitcher Trevor Oaks, and tossed a scoreless inning. Wisdom entered the game pinch hitting in the sixth and remained in the game at third base. Wisdom had two plate appearances, grounding into a force out and striking out.
Thursday’s game: at Omaha, Austin Gomber (5-3, 3.57) 7:05 CT.
The Cardinals lost a close road contest to the Travelers on Wednesday. Cardinals bats were held scoreless until the sixth, when Tommy Edman led off with a walk and Ramon Urias drove him in on a double to center field. Springfield added another run in the ninth on Lane Thomas’ solo home run. Urias was 2-for-4.
Springfield starter Anthony Shew pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Shew fanned six and walked none. Rehabber Tyler Lyons pitched a scoreless eighth.
Tommy Edman stole his 17th base in 19 attempts.
The Cardinals are 38-51 overall, 5-14 in the second half, and are in third place in the Texas League North.
Thursday’s game: at Arkansas, Austin Warner (0-2, 10.38) 7:10 CT.
The Cardinals were defeated at Fort Myers on Wednesday. Starter Casey Meisner gave up seven runs, six earned, on seven hits in seven innings pitched. Three runs scored in the fourth with the others in the sixth. Estarlin Arias finished with two scoreless innings of relief.
Palm Beach put up two runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth and held the lead until the fateful sixth. In the third, Juan Yepez led off with a double and scored on a sac bunt by Chase Pinder and a throwing error. Dylan Carlson drove in the second run on a sac fly. Carlson drove in two in the fourth on a double. Andy Young went 2-for-4.
Kramer Robertson made a throwing error.
The Cardinals are 48-36 overall, 9-11 in the second half as they are tied for second place in the FSL South.
Thursday’s game: at Fort Myers, TBA 6:00 CT.
The Chiefs fell to the Lake County Captains to open their home stand on Wednesday. The offense scored its lone run in the fourth inning on Yariel Gonzalez’ home run. Gonzalez went 2-for-4. J.R. Davis had the only other extra base hit, a double.
Starter Alvaro Seijas suffered his fifth loss of the season. Seijas pitched six innings and gave up five runs on seven hits. Zach Prendergast tossed two scoreless innings. Patrick Dayton added a scoreless ninth.
The Chiefs are 49-39 overall, 10-8 in the second half, and are in third place in the Midwest League Western Division.
Thursday’s game: vs. Lake County, Alex Fagalde (4-2, 1.99) 7:00 CT.
The Spikes were blanked at home by the Vermont Lake Monsters on Wednesday. Starter Jake Dahlberg pitched seven innings and gave up one run while scattering 10 hits. The left hander fanned seven and walked none. Gabe Gentner surrendered two runs in his one inning pitched. Edgar Gonzalez pitched a scoreless ninth. Dahlberg took the loss.
The Spikes offense managed only two hits, both singles, by Justin Toerner and Brandon Benson.
Benson stole his first base in his initial attempt for State College. Toerner made a throwing error.
The Spikes are 10-15 on the season and are in last place in the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division.
Thursday’s game: vs. Vermont, Chris Holba (1-1, 2.19) 6:05 CT.
Johnson City 6, Elizabethton 10
The Cardinals were overwhelmed by the Twins on Wednesday. The offense couldn’t score until the seventh, by which time the Twins had a 10-run cushion. Johnson City got on the board with one run in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Nolan Gorman. The Cardinals rallied in the ninth but couldn’t catch up. Luis Flores doubled in a run. Gorman singled in again to drive in his second run. Carlos Soto plated two on a single. Kevin Woodall singled to score the fifth and final run of the inning. Gorman went 2-for-5. Woodall and Leandro Cedeno each went 2-for-4.
Starter Kyle Leahy was the losing pitcher. Leahy pitched four innings and gave up six runs on nine hits. Jacob Sylvester allowed three more runs in his 1 2/3 innings pitched. David Oca tossed 2 1/3 and surrendered one run. Parker Kelly pitched a scoreless ninth.
Cedeno made a fielding error.
The Cardinals are 9-11 on the season and are in fourth place in the Appalachian League West. Their team ERA is up to 6.79, with league leader Danville at 2.72.

GCL Cardinals 8 at GCL Nationals 5
The Cardinals defeated the Nationals in a three-run road victory on Wednesday. Starter Perry DellaValle pitched five innings, giving up three runs on five hits. Ben Yokley went 2/3 inning, surrendering two unearned runs. Chris Hunt followed with 2 1/3 scoreless innings, and was the winning pitcher. Edgar Escobar added a scoreless ninth to earn his second save.
The offense scored a run each in the second and third innings. It began with an RBI single by Brandon Purcell. In the third, a run crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Purcell singled in a third run in the sixth. The offense put up a crooked number in the seventh, sending five runs across the plate. Victor Garcia plated two on a single. Liam Sabino added an RBI double. Purcell drove in his third and fourth runs of the game on his third single. Purcell went 3-for-5. Garcia was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Luken Baker made his professional debut, leading off and playing first base. He popped out, then walked and came around to score in his two plate appearances. Baker left the game in the middle of the fourth inning.
Cole Kreuter stole his first base of the season in his initial attempt. Sabino made a throwing error. Purcell had a passed ball.
The Cardinals are 14-6 on the season and are in first place in the GCL East.

DSL Cardinals Blue 8, DSL Angels 6 (Game 1, seven innings)
The Cardinals Blue prevailed over the Angels in the first game of the doubleheader on Wednesday, making up Tuesday’s rainout. The Blue team scored in the third inning on a two-run triple by Carlos Soler. Another run came home on a wild pitch. Diowill Burgos added a solo home run in the fourth, and another run scored on a wild pitch. In the fifth, Malcom Nunez launched a two-run home run. Darlin Moquete added a solo home run in the sixth. Burgos and Ramon Mendoza were both 2-for-3. Soler was 2-for-4.
Starter Francis Ventura pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up six runs, five earned, on eight hits. Freddy Pacheco was the winning pitcher, after tossing 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Leonardo Taveras added a scoreless seventh to earn his third save.
Ventura and Moquete committed throwing errors.
DSL Cardinals Blue 2 at DSL Angels 3 (Game 2, seven innings)
The Cardinals Blue lost a one-run contest in the second game of the twin bill on Wednesday. Starter Inohan Paniagua pitched four scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. Victor Villanueva followed with one inning, allowing one run on one hit. Anthony Trompiz took the sixth and gave up two more runs, to earn a blown save and the loss.
The Blue offense scored in the second on Ramon Mendoza’s double, and Mendoza singled in the fourth to plate the second and final run. Mendoza and Jean Selmo went 2-for-4. Carlos Soler was 2-for-4.
Soler was picked off and caught stealing for the sixth time in 10 attempts. Soler and Luis Rodriguez made throwing errors. Rodriguez had a passed ball.
The Cardinals Blue are 22-12 on the season and are in second place in the DSL South.

DSL Cardinals Red 4 at DSL Mets2 1 (Game 1, seven innings)
The Cardinals Red prevailed over the Mets2 in the first game of their Wednesday doubleheader. After falling behind 1-0, the Red offense put four runs on the board in the sixth for the winning edge. Franklin Soto drove in two on a triple and Adanson Cruz added a two-run home run.
Starter Martin Cordova won his fourth game of the season, pitching six innings and giving up one run on six hits. Nelson Prada added a scoreless seventh to earn his second save.
Cruz was picked off first base. Soto and Erik Pena both made throwing errors.
DSL Cardinals Red 8, DSL Mets2 9 (Game 2, seven innings)
The Cardinals Red were edged by the Mets2 in Game 2. Starter Luiz Ortiz was the loser of his second game of the season after pitching just 1 1/3 innings, giving up eight runs, six earned, on five hits. Gabriel Contreras surrendered one run and got the final two outs of the second. Allinson Benitez tossed 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Rodard Avelino took the final 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Red offense scored eight runs on seven hits. The first two runs came in the first inning on a throwing error and Adanson Cruz’ double. Cruz doubled again in the third to plate two runs. In the sixth, Claudio Ramirez doubled in a run. Luis Andujar added an RBI single, and another run scored on a wild pitch. The final run of the inning came home on Franklin Soto’s single.
Player of the Day Cruz was 2-for-3 in Game 2. The 17-year old finished his day 5-for-6, including three doubles and a home run, plus a walk, a stolen base and five RBI.
Soto stole his 14th base of the season in 20 attempts. Cruz stole his seventh base in nine attempts. Soto made two fielding errors. Joyser Garcia picked a runner off first base.
The Cardinals Red are 18-16 on the season and are in fourth place in the DSL San Pedro Division.
