What do you guys think about this? (Rays starters)

anyways…i like this idea…i would push it further

i have proposed a similar idea few times on the forum before this

i think it woudl be intriguing to build a team and staff (and farm system) around this idea

template for crazy new team structure…Speed and Relievers:
(i will take players from across MLB to fulfill the idea…even though getting them all would likely be impossible, more to build the idea out and might not even the best options)
(also this is for me…and i recognize no one else may care or agree…i am a professional idea vomiter)

Concept(s):
– No traditional starters, taking advantage of non-traditionally respected or utilized starters as potential for value to dollar spent as well as availability for production (older starters value being low because of lack of stamina is not a big problem)
– positional players are desired by focus on speed, base stealing, bunting, slap hitting, sac flies…defense is also desired…taking advantage of lack of speed in game and lack of teams knowing how to deal with it effectively, combined with lower dollar value on super high end speed in drafting and free agency
– build through drafting high end speed and defense for positional players, and for pitchers less focus on stamina and more on stuff and uniqueness (lefty righty splits and effectiveness)
– in minors focus for hitters on stealing, slap hitting, singles, bunting…power is not desired at all, if it comes along with speed and other things then so be it…batting practice is more of a bunting and contact practice
– in minors pitchers not groomed to go more than 5 innings at all, and in most cases 3 innings, and even 1 depending on their specific characteristics, roles are applied relatively early in minors and focused more or potentially switched as they move on

There is a lot of maneuvering to make this work, but should work to not force any pitcher to have to pitch more than 2days in a row to still make the system work, with the long men getting a bit more time (3-5 innings for Long Men)

typical game: (at least at the moment in my head)
1-2 Closer
3-5(6) Long man
6(7) Middle
7 Matchup switches (LOOGY ROOGY or MR)
8 Set up (or matchup if more innings from Long)
9 Closer

-Big money investment goes to guys that either fit the unique system well or offer a bit more, along with big investment in quality relievers (Turner, Realmuto, Hamilton, Miller, Iglesias, Hader) (Also unique cases like Venditte or switch pitching get added looks for multiple hole filling)
-Promote players fast through system based on speed not overall package
-acquire extra long men for AAA can be aging veterans or others written off for not having stamina
-pay more gas for AAA reliever shuttle 😛

jager, as we learned previously, you get stopped from commenting when your posts are longer than the board software accepts. Next time, I suggest you shorten your remarks until accepted. A side benefit is that you would then learn the word limit for the future. I have no feedback from others, as to the best of my knowledge, you are the only poster testing this boundary.

And I by make it shorter I did it a little at first then substantial t the point that it was shorter than your post revering it

In what would be an ironic twist, I think advanced statistics would prove that there is no great advantage of having the pitcher who starts pitch only an inning or two.

There are mounds of data that have looked at the current use of relievers, and that data shows today’s strategies have not altered the game. In other words, the chances of winning a game where you lead by two runs going into the ninth inning has not changed in 100+ years.

Data on left-right splits, where managers play late-inning match-up (ie the use of LOOGYs), has little advantage as well.

Despite all that managers do these days to get the best pitching advantages possible, it has not moved the needle on the final product; that is which team wins and loses based on the score and inning. The bottom line is this – the best way to win is to put your best players on the field as often as possible. You want your best pitchers throwing the most innings – pure and simple.
