Not for sure if this is the proper place to post, but I thought Brian or someone else may be of some help. My family will be in Orlando February 15-18. If time allows, we will be able to drive down to Jupiter to catch the first weekend of Cardinals spring training. I read that fans were not permitted around the back fields last year. If this is the case and no games being scheduled, is it worth our drive?
Welcome, lank-16. Though security was heightened and logistics were more complicated, fans were still allowed to watch the workouts last year and I do not expect that to change in 2018.
Having said that, you are down there very early. Pitchers and catchers report on 2/13, but position players are not required to arrive until 2/18. The first official full-team workout is 2/19. Of course, there will be many players there early, but it will be less structured.
Perhaps others who attend as fans can comment on the 2017 experience as well, especially early on. I don’t usually arrive until the minor leaguers are in full swing.
Thanks for the welcome and the information. I would rather go in early March, but my work schedule does not allow for it. I was able to attend in 2016 and had the most fun watching the minor league practices. My son loved being able to mingle with the players. I am not expecting that this time, just a chance to maybe see some of the big leaguers go through some drills.
Are we going to have a thread on the comings and goings of Spring Training? It starts when, tomorrow or the next day?

It would also be helpful to know who’s going to be there and when. Lunch call? Beer call? Dinner call?
I am still hoping to get down there towards the end of ST…i had a bit of an emergency otherwise i was going to go early as my favorite thing are the practices
I’ll be there March 21-23 if anyone else is going to be there. Will be at the minor league complex most of the time.
bc…I really envy you. I don’t know where you are from but those early Spring days in FL will be feeling kind of good in March. I hope that you will be sending back your take on what’s happening down there. By then some key decisions will be close to being made.
