Katie still scooping from LA!
News out of St. Louis: The Cardinals have parted ways with hitting coach Brant Brown, but expect to retain the majority of the major-league coaching staff for next season. https://t.co/vPA7euQ3rs

October 23, 2026 at 12:03 pm #321659How much control does Oli have over who is on the ML coaching staff?

ParticipantLooks like we have a new field coordinator. I used to provide links to these things but someone complained about it.
October 24, 2026 at 6:42 am #321709There is no problem with posting links here. People do it almost every day. What is not ok is to copy articles in their entirety.
If this is the announcement, it is for the assistant field coordinator, a job that was unfilled in 2026.
Ricky Rivera, the Hooks manager in 2026, is leaving the Astros for the Cardinals to become their Assistant Field Coordinator, per sources familiar with the matter.
Rivera has been with the Astros for 7 years, coaching the FCL, the Woodpeckers and the Hooks.

October 24, 2026 at 1:00 pm #321726Have the Cardinals filled their GM position yet? It has been vacant since Girsch was reassigned. I would think Cerfolio would be a good choice since other teams have recently pursued him but maybe Bloom is waiting to see what Flores does.
October 24, 2026 at 1:52 pm #321729Is Flores the highest ranking pre-Bloom guy still in the FO? I guess there is also Moises Rodriguez, but I have never understood what he is in charge of, if anything.

Rodriguez has been with the team for two decades and AGM for the last 10 years. Among his responsibilities is the entire international program. I’ve interviewed him many times over the years. This is the most recent, from January. Listen in and you might learn something! 😉

October 24, 2026 at 5:14 pm #321739OK, well anyway, the point is Moises and Randy are pre-Bloom hold overs. It became a point, in my mind, when the issue was raised of whether the GM title would be handed out. I guess who might get the title depends on what the role would encompass.
October 24, 2026 at 6:51 pm #321740Almost certainly, the 3 AGMs will report to the new GM. Choosing just one could be part of the delay. Of course, Girsch was still on the payroll assumedly on his GM contract. My guess not wanting to pay 2 GMs is a bigger factor.
October 25, 2026 at 5:24 pm #321768I missed this the other day. Flores is mentioned as one of at least five candidates for the open GM job with the Astros. Make sure you also read the part at the end about the new guy getting a lot of “help”.

October 25, 2026 at 7:03 pm #321769One of the reader comments with that article spelled out the other side of the meddlesome owner issue.
“The last GM with any level of autonomy humiliated the owner with a string of scandals resulting in record fines and losses of draft picks. Then sued him. Guessing Crane might still be a little gun shy about giving free reign”.
