I’m calling this one 7-4 Springfield with Jack Henry Gurevitch depositing a long tater far up into the rafters in right.
Fajardo is struggling, to say the least. 3 walks and a HBP in the 1st and now two HRs in the 2nd. It’s 4-0. The Baby Birds still have a chance as they’ll get to the Amarillo pitcher, but the bullpen will have to be sterling.
Springfield isn’t getting to the Amarillo pitcher so far. Still 4-0 after 5. They game is getting late, fast. They’ll need to get into the pen but the Amarillo hurler is only at 68 pitches. This after putting up an ERA over 6 and giving up 13 dingers in 46 innings in the regular season.
Additionally, Memphis trails 2-1 against Rochester in the AAA playoffs.
There was something odd in the bottom of the ninth, but I did not see it. Redbirds up 4-3. Potential tying run on 3rd. Potential winning run on 1st. 2 out. The runner takes second on defensive indifference!! The potential walkoff winning run allowed to move into scoring position on defensive indifference?? Did anyone see the play?
Springfield never could mount a rally. 4-0 and we are off to the rubber match. Daniel Eagen was a bright spot with 6 scoreless innings in relief against his former team. He’s been pretty solid since coming over.

Both Springfield and Memphis face elimination tonight. The S-Cards can win the championship should the win. Pat Anderson could look like a genius by holding back Doyle for the if necessary game 3. Doyle has nine straight starts with GSs 59 and above.
Only Doyle and B Davis remain from the opening day rotation. Molina, Thompson and Cijntje jumped to AAA. Eagen was added in Aug. as was Fijardo, Aita and Franklin from Peoria, plus Clarke in Sept. Aita was the only one to really struggle.
This was a great team to follow all season. A lot of talent coming and going. Good luck tonight….. it would be wonderful if they win it all.The Gashouse Gang is on at noon with @Ackerman1120 and @ChrisRongey

Liam Doyle has mostly been in the zone, except for a 4 pitch walk in the 3rd. But Amarillo has forced him to use a lot of pitches…almost 60 through 3.
Rainiel just ripped a huge homer, 110 mph off the bat and 428 feet to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead!
Doyle quieted down for a pretty nice overall line. Unfortunately, Nolan Sparks just immediately coughed up the lead, with a little help from a Jesus Baez error.
Did Springfield read too many of their own press clippings? Perhaps the chest thumps and bat flips after walks in the 3rd inning suggested that they were assuming a walk in the park.
Congrats to Amarillo on a great finish to the year. For Springfield, hopefully they can learn some lessons from falling short and go out to win a title in Memphis next year.
Springfield had a messy game on defense and did a lot of striking out in key situations. Won bin Cho was a consistent negative contributor on both sides of the ball.

I’m guessing that Fleming will be on the mound for Memphis in the deciding game.
I’m truly bummed out that Springfield couldn’t close it out last night. There just wasn’t enough fire power left. Ragsdale, Richardson and Campos suddenly turned ice cold and the bullpen coughed up the game after Doyle pitched 5 innings and gave up only one unearned run. It was a nice ride following Springfield all season long.
