The Cards are currently 13th worst in the MLB standings at 77-81. There are a lot of teams bunched up between 73 and 78 wins..11, to be exact. It’s very unlikely to impossible that the Cards could end up behind the 73 win teams, the Reds and Mets. The Pirates also look generally out of reach at 80-78. So the Cards would be looking at finishing with the 7th-16th worst record, for draft purposes. How they close things out will go a long way there.
I’d expect that with Leahy looking gassed and Skenes on the mound, the Pirates win this one. But we have done great against him before.
Let’s hope the Cardinal bats are up to it today. We need to end the season with a show of muscle over the last four.
The CiFs will sit down shortly to a din-din of turkey breasts with a mushroom and cream sauce and brown rice. Dessert will be a couple of chocolate eclairs from the village bakery.

Walker has just gone off a cliff since the all-star break and especially the last month.

Sadly, I think that’s the only reasonable take at this point. He’s a usable player, but this month has so soured things that I don’t think you can make any firm plans beyond saying that he’ll get a chance to prove he can be first half Walker all year next year.
I thought Walker was playing like the second coming of Barry Bonds at the start of the season. I bet he even surprised himself about how much he improved during the offseason.
Walker has now played in 17 consecutive games without collecting an RBI or a HR. Not the way you want to see him conclude what’s been by far his best season, but he’s demonstrated that he has the ability to make a significant impact with the bat and his mitt in RF has improved tenfold. About a month ago he looked like he was going to score 100 runs, collect 100 RBI’s and rip 30 taters this season, but with 3 games remaining, that outstanding trifecta now looks to be a genuine longshot. In any case, the best attribute Walker possesses may be that he’s still only 4 months removed from turning 24 years of age. Hopefully he’ll pair up nicely with Burleson as a genuine threat to routinely place in the teeth of the batting order next season and beyond.
Hopefully the Cardinals will never allow Walker to participate in a Home Run Derby of any sort ever again. That had to have something to do with the 2026 Walker reverting back to the 2025 Walker.
You’re not kidding, but that’s often times the way they conduct their present day business. In his first 3 seasons AP ripped 114 HR’s, collected 381 RBI’s, scored 367 runs, while hitting at a .334 clip before the Cardinals signed him up to an agreement in ’04 that kept him terrorizing the Big Leagues as a Cardinal through the ’11 season. Wetherholt’s got a tough act to follow.
