The Cubs did indeed go on to lose last night. 8-2 Miami the final in 12 innings at Wrigley.
And the Doyers pounded the Padres. 7-0 your final at Doyer Stadium.
The Phillies, Padres, and Cubs are all now tied with identical 87-70 records.
Bad news is that the Cubs own the tiebreaker over both the Phillies and Padres.

The Cardinals can avoid the possibility of ending the ’26 season with a last place finish in the NLC with 2 more W’s, so they still have something to play for. Maybe pride will prevent them from packing it in.

I’m calling it 7-3 Cards tonight with Bernal getting off the 1 game offensive schneid by whacking a ringing double and tape measure tater into the Pittsburgh night. Go Cards, Marlins, Pads & Phillies!
Despite a 3 way tie for the NLWC all three of those teams are virtually assured of a post-season berth, so that kind of places a damper on any suspense. However, over in the AL, both the ALC and ALW remain up for grabs. Perhaps there’s a bit more at stake over in ALW because neither Skippy’s Rangers or the Astros look to have much of a chance at any bonus baseball unless they win that division. At any rate, it’s baseball, so anything can happen and it probably will…
In that ALC the Guardians are hot at the right time, running off 7 victories in a row. Can they carry that momentum into a post season run? We will find out in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, Bikemike, there’s no better time for a team to hit full throttle than late Sept. and, many times, the teams that do tend to create some trouble in the playoffs. In any case, the Indians won’t find any bargains tonight at Fenway while the White Sox may have a bit of an easier task against the Royals at KC. Now that I’ve said that, Brett, Wilson, McRae and Saberhagen will suit up in KC…
Bernal just singled in Burleson making it 3-1 Birds in the top of the 3rd. Burly picked up RBI #112 earlier in the inning.
The only reason I know that Lou broke Cobb’s SB record against the Padres in SD is because my maternal grandmother snagged me a poster with a photo of him sliding into 2B at Jack Murphy. My dear grandmother hung around a lot longer than the poster, but I still miss both of them a whole lot.
I was listening to KMOX in Boulder, CO the night of Brock’s record setting stolen base, and had the cassette player recording it. I still have that tape with Jack Buck at the mike. The audio is a bit crackly, but those west coast games came in pretty good back in the day so it’s not bad at all.
Obviously the SB and the great Lou Brock are synonymous, but he was also undoubtedly one of greatest players who ever stepped onto a baseball field when all the money was pushed to center of the table. He’s right up there with Bob Gibson regarding legendary Cardinal WS lore. Lou Brock was a genuine terror whenever and wherever he appeared in a WS game.
Yeah, Bikemike, Remember when Cub’s pitcher Lamp knocked him down with a high and tight brushback at Busch Memorial and on the very next delivery Lou took him out with a comeback line drive base hit for #3000. Recalling that and just now keying this in made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. What a thrill that was!
Just a few days ago the Blue Jays were only 1.0 games off the pace for an ALWC berth and still had a decent chance, but the Orioles have ended their season in BAL. And the Royals jump out to an early 2nd inning 4-0 lead over the White Sox in KC, while the Indians and Red Sox are scoreless in the visitor half of the 4th at Fenway.

Lou slid feet first like a real man and obviously wouldn’t be caught dead wearing one of those sissy sliding mittens.
The White Sox look like they intend to TCOB in KC as they push 4 runs across against the Royals to tie that game up at 4-4. Meanwhile, the Indians are being blanked by the Red Sox by a 1-0 score in the home half of the 7th at Fenway. Our old friend Gray worked 6 scoreless innings in that game. He may line up real good for the AL CYA.
