Cardinals Minor League Notebook – September 14, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 1-1 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Ian Petrutz, drove in three as Springfield closed its regular season with a loss. Other standouts: Jack Gurevitch, Jesús Báez, Nate Dohm, Josh Fleming and Bligh Madris.

Memphis Redbirds 3, Norfolk Tides 2

The Triple-A Memphis won its series finale over the Norfolk Tides at AutoZone Park on Sunday.

Josh Fleming made his fifth start for Memphis. The left-hander pitched 5 ⅔ innings and allowed two runs on five hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Fleming earned his first win with Memphis.

Fellow lefty Sandro Santana tossed 1 ⅓ shutout frames in relief of Fleming. Matt Svanson followed with a shutout eighth. 28-year-old Jared Shuster fired a scoreless ninth inning for his first professional save.

In the second inning, Memphis struck first, as Bligh Madris hit a solo shot, his 16th home run of 2026.

The Redbirds doubled the lead in the fourth. Ramon Mendoza lined a leadoff single and took second base on a fielding error. Mendoza took third on a groundout and came home on Chase Davis’s single.

The Redbirds added a run in the fifth. Jimmy Crooks ripped a one-out double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Madris hit a two-out single to bring Crooks home and extend the lead to 3-0.

Norfolk plated two runs in the sixth off Fleming to move within a run, but the Redbirds bullpen pitched 3 ⅓ shutout innings on just one hit with five strikeouts to seal the win.

The Redbirds scored three runs on seven hits. Madris went 2-for-4, including a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI. Davis singled and drove in a run. Crooks walked, doubled, and scored. Mendoza singled and scored.

On the bases, Davis swiped his fourth Triple-A bag. But right fielder Davis also committed a fielding error.

Memphis is 32-37 in the second half and 79-65 after the series split with Norfolk. They reside in seventh place in the International League West Division. The Redbirds are off Monday and will travel to First Horizon Park in Nashville, Tennessee, for the final series of the regular season, a six-game set with the Nashville Sounds, starting Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game: at Nashville (MIL). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM CT.

Springfield Cardinals 7, Arkansas Travelers 10

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals lost a heartbreaker in the ninth inning to the Arkansas Travelers at Route 66 Stadium in Sunday’s regular season finale.

Blake Aita started for Springfield. The right-hander pitched six innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits, no walks, and two strikeouts.

Nate Dohm struck out three across two scoreless, no-hit innings in relief of Aita. Michael Watson yielded five runs, two earned, in the ninth and took the tough loss.

During the game, Springfield pitchers set the franchise record for strikeouts.

Springfield opened the scoring with a two-run bottom of the second inning. Jack Gurevitch singled and moved to second on a Ryan Campos walk. Tre Richardson III moved both runners into scoring position on a groundout. Ian Petrutz doubled home Gurevitch and Campos.

The Cardinals widened the lead with four runs in the home third. Jesús Báez crushed his 25th Double-A home run and 39th overall in 2026, a solo blast.

Won-Bin Cho lined a double and scored on a two-run shot from Jack Gurevitch, his ninth in Double-A, to extend the lead to 5-0.

With two outs, Campos singled. Richardson III reached on a throwing error, with Campos to second base. Petrutz lined a single to score Campos and stretch the lead to 6-0.

Arkansas moved within two after a four-run top of the fourth.

The Cardinals brought one run back in the home half of the frame. Josiah Ragsdale singled and moved to third on a double from Báez. Cho plated Ragsdale on a sacrifice fly to move the Springfield lead to 7-4.

The Travelers scored a run in the sixth and five runs in the ninth to jump in front 10-7. Springfield was unable to answer.

The Cardinals scored seven runs on 11 hits. Gurevitch went 2-for-5, including a home run, two runs scored, and two RBI. Báez collected a double and a solo home run. Petrutz was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Cho walked, doubled, scored, and drove in a run. Campos was 2-for-4, including a walk, a double, and two runs scored.

The Cardinals did not steal a base.

On defense, pitcher Aita made a pickoff error. Third baseman Cade McGee made a throwing error. First baseman Gurevitch and shortstop Báez each committed a fielding error. Báez showcased his range to kickstart a double play.

In their final season as the Springfield Cardinals, the team finished the regular season with a 47-22 record in the second half and 78-59 overall. The Cardinals won the Texas League North Division in the second half by five games.

They are off Monday and will stay at Route 66 Stadium as they prepare for the first game of the Texas League North Division series against the Tulsa Drillers on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s game: vs. Tulsa (LAD). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM CT.
