If you dropped onto earth from space and saw that at the end of August the Cardinals are starting a guy who is 5-12 with a 5.44 ERA it would tell you all you need to know. Likely, you would think it told you all you need to know about both the ML roster and the development system supporting it.

What it tells me is that this is truly a rebuild year in which half of our payroll is going to veterans that we have offloaded and are no longer here. Our top prospects are at AA and not quite ready so we are going to need to spend some money in 2027 or it will look a lot like 2026.

The guy dropping in from space doesn’t know we have pitchers who can strike out AA hitters and hitters who can hit AA pitchers. If he did I guess the clouds would part and he would hear the Hallelujah chorus.

They must not do rebuilds up in space.

Or they have no need up there to unload expensive players.

Or they don’t pay millions for mediocre players in the first place.

    Or they….

There appears to be no precipitation in the St. Louis area for this one. All clear and it looks like this one will be played with no problems. There is, however, a big pile of green stuff way up in northern Illinois that could affect the Reds/Cubs tonight at Wrigley. And as is always the case, when it’s this hot and humid those little popup storms can occur on a moment’s notice.

Din-din today will be a ribeye steak in the air fryer as opposed to my little grill. It’s too hot to mess with grilling outside. Along with some mashed potates and an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew. Then a big brownie from the bakery at the store. Then a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar whilst me and Whitey Herdog sit on the couch to watch the game.

Just finished a din-din of pork chops. mashed potatoes, corn and cornbread, followed by a dish of Haagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream sprinkled with fresh raspberries. Yum.

Now downstairs to settle in before the teevee for a little Cardinal baseball.

    A little hitting music please!

Dierburghs oven fried chicken with Nates pepper infused honey and cheesy Texas potatoes. Arnies Diet Half and half lemonade and tea. Nestles drumstick ice cream cone. probably 3 of those. If Lib doesnt straighten it out there’s gonna be a nap. Work tomorrow 415 comes early.

Cardinals have had some chances. Still down 3-0. Still a long way to go though. Cardinals have made an error but pittsburghs defense looks just terrible even when making the plays. It just seems like there are a couple of big errors coming that will help the cardinals.

I am not sure whether to be happy Liby went 5.2 IP or dismayed it took him 107 pitches.

Well kind of disappointing. While the pirates record is a little better than usual, i dont see much that the cardinals shouldnt have won at least 2 of these games at home even if the cardinals have issues themselves. On to face the dodgers, the dodgers offense is struggling so who knows what will happen.

The Cardinals have decided to strike the colors and pack it in for the remainder of the ’26 season. I was hoping they’d play baseball until Sept. They almost made it. Maybe they’ll do better next season.

It has to be bull pen or bust for Liberatore next season (if there is a season that is).

Yep 1 TD. Looks like it’s time to improve the old draft position.

In fairness to the team, they’ve put seven players on the IL in the last nine days. That includes three starting infielders and two members of the rotation.

They don’t have the depth to recover. Not many teams probably would.
