Cardinals Minor League Notebook – August 18, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 1-0 on Monday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, DSL infielder Michael Cordero, was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Other standouts include Brayan Amoroso, Misael Sánchez and Sebastian Rojas.

Memphis Redbirds (off day)

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds were off Monday, as they headed home to AutoZone Park for a six-game series with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, starting Tuesday.

The Redbirds enter the week following a 4-2 road series win over the Durham Bulls.

Outfielder Joshua Báez still leads Triple-A in home runs (34) and RBI (90) among 105 hits. His dominant season was rewarded with a promotion to the big leagues on Saturday. The 22-year-old’s debut was historic as he became the first player in MLB history to hit home runs in each of his first three at-bats.  Leo Bernal has also put together a solid season with the Redbirds. The catcher is hitting .285 with 15 home runs and 73 RBI with 98 hits.

Cooper Hjerpe

On the mound, Cooper Hjerpe has gotten off to a red-hot start with Memphis. In three starts, the left-hander sports a 0.79 ERA with 14 strikeouts across 11 ⅓ innings, allowing just six hits.

Memphis is 21-25 in the second half and 67-53 overall. They reside in eighth place in the International League West Division.

Tuesday’s game: vs. Jacksonville (MIA). TBA vs. RHP Brandon White (5-7, 4.58) 6:45 PM CT.

Springfield Cardinals (off day)

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals were off Monday, as they traveled to Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas, for a six-game set with the Arkansas Travelers, starting Tuesday.

The Cardinals enter the week following a series split with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.

Rainiel Rodriguez’s bat has been scorching hot in recent games as his batting average has risen to a team-best .300. The catcher has also hit 14 home runs with 42 RBI among 79 hits across 67 games since joining Springfield. Jesús Báez has swung a hot bat in Double-A, hitting .288 with 16 home runs to lead the team in long balls and 42 RBI in 39 games. Won-Bin Cho is hitting .284 with 11 home runs and 28 RBI in his first 40 games of Double-A action.

Rainiel Rodriguez

On the mound, Braden Davis leads pitchers with 117 strikeouts in a team-high 93 ⅓ innings of work. Liam Doyle has also shown the strikeout pitch with 106 K’s in just 82 innings. Doyle has collected three wins.

Springfield is 27-18 in the second half and 58-55 overall. They are tied with Tulsa for first place in the Texas League North Division

Peoria Chiefs (off day)

The High-A Peoria Chiefs were off Monday, as they traveled to Jackson Field in Lansing, Michigan, for a six-game series with the Lansing Lugnuts, starting Tuesday.

Peoria enters the week aiming to get back on track after losing the series to Beloit at home, their second consecutive series loss at Dozer Park.

On offense, Jalin Flores leads the Chiefs with 78 RBI and has 16 home runs, the second-most on the team. Flores also holds the team lead in hits (98). Jack Gurevitch flexed his muscles with the bat, swatting a team-best 17 along with a strong .302 batting average with 73 hits in 59 games for the Chiefs before his recent promotion to Springfield.

Cade Crossland

On the mound, Cade Crossland has turned in two strong starts since his promotion to Peoria. The left-hander is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 9 ⅓ innings with nine strikeouts.

Peoria is 23-24 in the second half and 55-58 overall. The Chiefs are 5.5 games behind first place in the Midwest League West Division.

Palm Beach Cardinals (off day)

The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals were off Monday as they headed home to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium for a six-game series with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels, starting Tuesday.

The Cardinals enter the week following a 5-2 series loss to first-place Daytona.

On offense, Ryan Mitchell has drawn the most walks on the team at 91 with 74 hits, 12 home runs, and 45 RBI across 92 games. Trevor Haskins leads players currently on the roster with 12 home runs along with 47 RBI among 70 hits.

On the mound, left-hander Cade Crossland threw a team-high 70 innings across 19 appearances and 18 starts, striking out a team-best 106 in that time to earn a promotion to the Peoria Chiefs, where he’s made two starts. Brian Holiday leads pitchers currently on the roster with 60 strikeouts.

Palm Beach is 23-25 in the second half and 56-58 overall. The Cardinals are in second place in the Florida State League East Division, eight games behind Daytona.

Tuesday’s game: vs. Fort Myers (MIN). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM CT.

DSL Cardinals 7 at DSL Mets Blue 6 (7 innings)

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals won a seven-inning thriller over the DSL Mets Blue in Monday’s road contest.

Daniel Gómez made his 10th start in his 11th game for the Cardinals. The right-hander pitched 4 ⅔ innings and allowed four runs on three hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts.

Andey Garrido yielded a run and recorded the final out of the fifth in relief of Gómez. Brayan Amoroso gave up a run and struck out three over the final two innings to pick up his second win.

The Mets Blue took an early 3-0 lead after the first inning.

The Cardinals answered with a four-run top of the second. Misael Sánchez hit a leadoff double and took third on a wild pitch. Diego Conseción walked. Conseción advanced to second on a wild pitch, with Sánchez also home on the play. Conseción made third on the third wild pitch of the frame and scored on a Lucas Takahashi groundout. Michael Cordero followed with a walk. Jesús Pérez reached on a fielder’s choice, with Cordero safe at second on a missed catch error. Both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Carlos Carrión plated Cordero via a groundout, with Pérez to third. Emanuel Luna walked and Sebastian Rojas was hit by a pitch to load the bags with two outs. Jhon Franganten took a bases-loaded walk to force Pérez home and give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead.

The Cardinals added a run in the fourth. Luna hit a lead-off single. Franganten and Sánchez walked to load the bases. Conseción brought Luna home on a groundout for a 5-3 Cardinals lead.

The Mets Blue knotted the game 5-5 with a pair of runs in the home fifth.

The Cardinals regained their two-run lead in the sixth. Sánchez and Conseción took back-to-back walks and moved into scoring position via a wild pitch. Takahashi reached on a fielder’s choice, with Conseción to third and Sánchez home due to a throwing error. Cordero singled home Conseción to extend the lead to 7-5.

The Mets Blue narrowed the score to 7-6, but Amoroso held on to secure the victory.

The DSL Cardinals scored seven runs on five hits. Cordero was 2-for-3, including a double, a walk, a run and an RBI. Sánchez walked twice, doubled, and scored twice. Conseción drew three walks, scored twice, and notched an RBI. Takahashi walked and recorded an RBI. Frangenten walked twice and brought home a run. Rojas doubled. The lineup drew 13 walks and struck out just three times.

On the bases, Cordero swiped his second bag. Pérez stole his eighth. Conseción was caught stealing second base.

The Cardinals did not commit an error.

The DSL Cardinals are 27-26 on the season. They will play a doubleheader with the DSL Twins on Tuesday. The Cardinals will serve as the away team for game one and the home team for game two.

Tuesday’s games: vs. DSL Twins. Pitching probables have not yet been announced for either game. First pitch is scheduled for 9:00 AM CT. Game two is slated to start shortly after the conclusion of game one.
