The St. Louis Cardinals system was 5-1 on Thursday. TCN’s Player of the Day, Memphis CF Joshua Báez, doubled twice and homered for four RBI. Other standouts include Deniel Ortiz, Jack Gurevitch, Andrew Dutkanych, Brayden Smith and Diego Conseción.

Memphis 11 at Jacksonville 4 (seven innings, game one)
The Double-A Cardinals beat the Jumbo Shrimp by an 11-4 score in the first game of Thursday’s road twin bill. The extra game was to cover Wednesday’s rainout.
Starter Brandt Thompson pitched five innings, gave up two runs on five hits, walked two and fanned five to earn the win.
Andrew Schultz relieved Thompson and threw a scoreless sixth. Ryan Murphy surrendered two runs in the seventh.
Memphis went up 4-0 in the first inning. Joshua Báez doubled. Nolan Gorman followed with a two-run home run. Thomas Saggese doubled. Leo Bernal tripled to score Saggese and Bernal.

The Redbirds added two runs in the second to extend their lead to 6-0. Victor Scott walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Báez hit a two-run home run.

Memphis made it 7-0 in the third. Saggese singled, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ramon Mendoza singled to plate Saggese.
Jacksonville scored two runs in the fourth to cut the lead to 7-2.
The Redbirds scored one run in the fifth to increase the lead to 8-2. Bernal walked and scored on a double by Chase Davis.
Memphis put up three more runs in the sixth for an 11-2 lead. Brody Moore walked. Scott singled. César Prieto singled and Moore came home. Báez drove in Scott and Prieto on a double.
The Jumbo Shrimp rallied for two runs in the seventh to bring the final score to 11-4.
The offense scored 11 runs on 11 hits. Báez was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run for four RBI. Saggese was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Gorman went deep and had two RBI. Bernal and Scott each scored two runs.
Saggese stole his seventh base.
Memphis 3 at Jacksonville 4 (eight innings, game two)
The Redbirds lost to the Jumbo Shrimp in extra innings in the second game to split the road twin bill.
Jared Shuster pitched 2 1/3 innings, gave up two runs on three hits, walked one and struck out two. Shuster was a spot starter when Quinn Mathews was scratched. Mathews will be making his MLB debut for St. Louis on Saturday.

Durbin Feltman relieved Shuster and surrendered one run in 2/3 of an inning. Hancel Rincon and Victor Santos hurled two scoreless innings each. Ryan Fernandez allowed one unearned run in the eighth and took the loss.
Jacksonville went up 3-0 in the third inning. In the fifth, a solo home run by Thomas Saggese cut the lead to 3-1.

In the sixth, Ramon Mendoza and Colton Ledbetter singled. Noah Mendlinger plated both runners on a double to tie the score.

The game went into extra innings. Memphis failed to score in the top of the eighth. In the home eighth, Jacksonville won in a walk off, 4-3.
The Redbirds scored three runs on eight hits. Saggese was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Mendoza was 2-for-4. Mendlinger had two RBI.
Joshua Báez stole his 16th base. César Prieto swiped his sixth bag. Ledbetter stole his 16th base.
Memphis is 12-18 in the second half.
Friday’s game: at Jacksonville, Jurrangelo Cijntje SHP (0-2, 12.38) vs. Bradley Blalock RHP (1-8, 6.28) 6:05 CT.
The Double-A Cardinals beat the Wind Surge by the score of 6-1 on Thursday in Springfield. It was Springfield’s seventh consecutive victory.
Starter Cooper Hjerpe pitched three innings, gave up one run on two hits, walked four and struck out three.
Four relievers spun a total of six scoreless innings. Jose Davila relieved Hjerpe and went two innings. D.J. Carpenter hurled the sixth. Tyler Bradt pitched the seventh and eighth and Michael Watson tossed the ninth.
Wichita took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Springfield scored two runs in the fourth to take the lead. Rainiel Rodriguez singled. Deniel Ortiz followed with a two-run home run.

The Cardinals added four runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 6-1. Rodriguez walked. Ortiz hit his second long ball, a two-run shot. Zach Levenson walked and advanced to second on a passed ball. Miguel Ugueto doubled to score Levenson. Trey Paige plated Ugueto on a double.
The Cardinals scored six runs on seven hits. Ortiz hit two home runs with four RBI. Rodriguez scored two runs.
Paige stole his 15th base. Ugueto swiped his 23rd bag. Rodriguez had a passed ball.
Springfield is 20-10 in the second half.
Friday’s game: vs. Wichita, Liam Doyle LHP (2-6, 4.91) vs. Sam Armstrong RHP (5-8, 4.92) 7:05 CT.
The High-A Chiefs edged the Kernels by the score of 5-4 on Thursday.
Starter Ty Van Dyke pitched five innings, gave up three runs on four hits, walked two and fanned six.
Dylan Driessen relieved Van Dyke and surrendered one run in two innings for the win. Jawilme Ramírez tossed the final two scoreless innings to earn his first save.
Cedar Rapids plated three in the first and added a run in the sixth to lead 4-0.
Peoria put up five runs in the seventh to take the lead. Sammy Hernandez walked and stole second base. Ian Petrutz reached on catcher interference. Anyelo Encarnación walked. Hernandez scored on a sac fly by Luis Pino. Encarnación stole second base. Red-hot Jack Gurevitch blasted a three-run home run. Josh Kross hit a solo shot.

The Chiefs scored five runs on four hits. Kross was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Gurevitch had three RBI. Both went deep.
Hernandez stole his 12th base. Encarnación swiped his 13th bag.
The Chiefs are 16-16 in the second half.

The Class-A Cardinals were the victors over the Mighty Mussels by a 9-3 score on Thursday.
Starter Andrew Dutkanych pitched five innings, gave up one unearned run on three hits, walked two and fanned seven and earned his third win.
Nathan Shinn relieved Dutkanych and surrendered one unearned run in the sixth. Hunter Kublick threw a scoreless seventh. Justin Militello yielded one run in the eighth. Jesús García tossed a scoreless ninth.
Palm Beach took the lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Miguel Hernández. They added a run in the third to lead 2-0. Trevor Haskins singled. Brayden Smith singled, advancing Haskins to third. Haskins scored on a throwing error.
Fort Myers scored their first run in the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1.
The Cardinals answered with a run in the fifth to increase the lead to 3-1. Alex Birge walked. Smith singled, moving Birge to third. Birge came home on a ground out by Yairo Padilla.
Palm Beach put up two runs in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 5-1. Ryan Weingartner walked and stole second base. Hernández and Cristofer Lebrón walked. Birge grounded into a double play and Weingartner scored. Hernández crossed the plate on a passed ball.
The Mighty Mussels shrunk the lead to 5-2 in the home sixth.
In the top of the eighth, the Cardinals posted three runs to strengthen the lead to 8-2. Hernández and Lebrón singled. Haskins plated Hernández on a single. Smith doubled to drive in Lebrón and Haskins.
Fort Myers responded with a run in the home eighth to decrease the lead to 8-3. Palm Beach made it 9-3 in the ninth on a solo home run by Weingartner.
The Cardinals scored nine runs on 11 hits. Smith was 3-for-5 with two RBI. Hernández was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Haskins was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Weingartner homered and scored two runs.
Ryan Mitchell stole his 32nd base. Weingartner swiped his 33rd bag. Haskins stole his 18th base. Smith was picked off and caught stealing.
Hernández and Weingartner each made a throwing error. Smith had an outfield assist at home plate.
The Cardinals are 18-14 in the second half.
Friday’s game: at Fort Myers, LHP Brandon Clarke (AA rehab) vs. Matt Barr RHP (0-0, 16.88) 6:05 CT.
DSL Cardinals 8 at DSL Marlins 6 (seven innings)
The Dominican Cardinals beat the Marlins by an 8-6 score on Thursday.
Starter Beiker Rodriguez pitched three innings, gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits, walked one and struck out two.
Jordan Beltrán relieved Rodriguez and threw two scoreless innings to earn the win. Brayan Amoroso surrendered one run in the final two innings but received his second save.
The Cardinals went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning. Diego Conseción doubled. Jhon Franganten singled. Misael Sánchez doubled to score Conseción. Christopher Vargas singled to plate Franganten and Sánchez.
The Marlins answered with a run in the home first then added three in the third and one in the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.
The Cardinals shrunk the lead to 5-4 in the fifth. Conseción singled, stole second and came home on Michael Cordero’s single.
The Cardinals put up two runs in the sixth to regain the lead 6-5. Roberth Castillo singled. Eduardo Mirabel walked. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Conseción tripled to plate Castillo and Mirabel.
The Cardinals increased their lead to 8-5 with a two-run top of the seventh. Sánchez walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Lucas Takahashi singled to score Sánchez. Castillo doubled to plate Takahashi.
The Marlins rallied for one run in the home seventh to bring the final score to 8-6.
The Cardinals scored eight runs on 11 hits. Conseción singled, doubled and tripled with two RBI and two runs scored. Castillo was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Vargas had two RBI. Sánchez scored two runs.
Vargas stole his first base. Conseción swiped his fourth bag. Vargas was picked off second base.
Rodriguez made an error on a pickoff attempt.
The Cardinals are 20-21 on the season and are in fourth place in the DSL Southeast.
