Our club has scuffled of late and that is not surprising. Our record was quite a bit better than it probably should have been early on as we had some good fortune. But it seems when we go into a low point we come back and win 4 of 6 so who knows. Regardless the MO for management will likely be moving a couple of hurlers for some kids who we hope will bring more good times ahead. Perhaps Crooks will also be sent packing as he is a tantalizing prospect for the right team, and should bring back some value. Could be that Noot moves on but I think he will be here after the deadline.
A scoreboard watch day here as I will be working the Nats-Rox game.
Can never trust early season highs, best to trust your judgement if you have the experience to have that. Still some good things this year. Jj, while i thought he would be good, has turned out really good, maybe even great. Walker has def come out of his past years issues. I think those two really provided some early energy and we def won a few games that we wouldnt have if we didnt have that energy. Plus other teams like the cubs have turned it around and the brewers have just stayed consistent. I dont generally cheer for any other teams but i hope that the brewers can finally put that magical run on in the playoffs.

Blewett being DFA’d is interesting. We have two successful two inning relief stints from Mautz. I bet they add him to the roster tomorrow to replace Dobbins. That also leaves them with a 40-man spot. Will we finally see a Mathews start later in this stretch of 20 games? Of course, if you add Mathews, you have to send down a reliever, and then you replace Mathews with a different reliever, but there’s no one on the 40-man you’d want for that role. The options would just be Hence, Fernandez, and Hjerpe.
Mautz and Fernandez are my best guesses in that scenario.
On the podcast today, Kyle raised the idea of taking Hence off the roster.
Oh, interesting, Brian! I’ve wondered if Hence’s days on the roster are numbered. I figured they would give him till the end of the year. I’ve not had a chance to listen yet, but plan to tonight. Love the podcasts! I agree with Mautz and Fernandez. I bet Mautz is given an extended run in the bullpen starting tomorrow, replacing Dobbins. So that would leave Fernandez to replace Mathews, if Mathews has a one start initial run in the big leagues, and Fernandez has really not inspired of late!
Whew indeed! Feels like another 1-5 road trip with another blown lead would have set up too many memories of last year.
I’m surprised Miami has lost 8 in a row. They were my bet for the main competition for that last playoff spot.
Maybe Dobbins can take another turn or two in the rotation and spare us Liberatore’s pitching routine for a little while.
He turned out to be a pretty good choice, at least this time.

Cardinal pitchers didn’t walk anybody until the 9th when two hitters reached base via the dreaded BB. That normally means the sounding of the death knell for a closer. Dobbins managed to work 6 scoreless innings despite scattering 6 hits, but he didn’t walk anyone. Go figure…It continues to makes sense to throw strikes.
