Cardinals Minor League Notebook – July 13, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 1-2 on Sunday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield’s Jesús Báez, hit a go-ahead two-RBI double. Other standouts: Brandt Thompson, Dakota Harris, Travis Honeyman and Jalin Flores. Rainiel Rodriguez and Liam Doyle represented the Cardinals in the 2026 MLB All-Star Futures Game.

AL Futures 6, NL Futures 1 (7 innings)

The American League won the 2026 MLB All-Star Futures Game in Philadelphia on Sunday.

Two players from the St. Louis Cardinals organization made the National League Futures roster: Catcher Rainiel Rodriguez and LHP Liam Doyle. Both played.

Rodriguez entered the game on defense in the sixth inning and caught the final two frames. Leading off the bottom of the seventh inning, Rodriguez flied out to center field on a 1-0 count in his only at-bat.

Doyle took the mound in the fourth inning. The left-hander threw a scoreless frame on no hits, two walks, and two strikeouts.  The 22-year-old caught a runner attempting to steal third base. Doyle threw 24 pitches, just 11 for strikes, and generated four whiffs.

The American League won the MLB All-Star Futures Game for the first time since 2022.

Memphis Redbirds 2 at Gwinnett Stripers 7

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds dropped the series finale at the Gwinnett Stripers on Sunday.

Brycen Mautz made his 16th start for Memphis. The left-hander threw 3 ⅓ innings and allowed three runs on three hits, five walks, and three strikeouts.

Ryan Fernandez surrendered three runs across 1 ⅓ frames in relief of Mautz. Brandt Thompson, who had been listed as Sunday’s starter, followed with 3 ⅓ innings of one-run baseball.

Memphis scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning. Joshua Báez and Nolan Gorman drew back-to-back walks. Báez moved to third on a flyout. César Prieto flied into a sacrifice double play with Báez coming home.

Gwinnett tallied back-to-back three-run frames in the fifth and sixth to jump ahead 6-1. The Stripers added a run in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-1.

Down to their final three outs, the Redbirds looked for a big comeback. Victor Scott II hit a leadoff double. Báez followed with a single to move Scott II to third. Gorman grounded into a double play, though Scott II crossed home plate for a 7-2 score. Memphis was unable to add more runs.

The Redbirds scored two runs on just three hits. Scott II doubled and scored. Báez singled and scored. Leo Bernal doubled. Prieto tallied the team’s lone RBI.

The Redbirds did not steal a base or commit an error.

Memphis is 7-11 in the second half and 54-39 on the season after taking just two of six at Gwinnett. They are tied for last place in the International League West Division. The Redbirds are off for the All-Star Break until Friday, when they will begin a three-game home series with the Iowa Cubs.

Springfield Cardinals 3 at Tulsa Drillers 1

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals edged the Tulsa Drillers to clinch the series win on Sunday.

Braden Davis made his 17th start for the Cardinals. The left-hander tossed three innings and allowed one run on one hit, five walks, and two strikeouts.

Six relievers threw a scoreless inning each, yielding just four hits in total. Darlin Saladin and Jack Findlay handled the fourth and fifth. D.J. Carpenter fired a shutout sixth frame and picked up his second Double-A win. Hunter Hayes and Michael Watson took the seventh and eighth. Domenic Picone threw the ninth inning for his first Double-A save and the second of his career.

Tulsa took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.

Springfield tied the game in the top of the third. Dakota Harris ripped a lead-off double and moved to third on a Graysen Tarlow single. Won-Bin Cho brought Davis home on a soft groundout.

Springfield gained the lead with a pair of runs in the seventh.  Harris opened the frame with a walk. Travis Honeyman drew a one-out walk. The runners advanced on a groundout from Cho. Jesús Báez scorched a double to plate Harris and Honeyman and put the Cardinals ahead 3-1.

The Cardinals scored three runs on eight hits. Báez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Harris went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and a double. Cho walked and notched an RBI. Honeyman walked, singled, and scored.

The Cardinals did not steal a base.

On defense, pitcher Davis picked a runner off first base. Cho nailed a runner at home plate from left field to highlight an errorless team performance.

Springfield is 12-6 in the second half and 43-43 overall after the series split in Tulsa. They hold a one-game lead in the Texas League North Division. The Cardinals are off until Friday, when they will resume the season with a three-game home series with the Amarillo Sod Poodles.

Peoria Chiefs 6 at Quad Cities River Bandits 8

The High-A Peoria Chiefs’ ninth-inning rally fell short in Sunday’s series finale at the Quad Cities River Bandits.

Jacob Odle made his seventh start for Peoria. The right-hander pitched two innings and allowed three runs on two hits, four walks and four strikeouts.

Dominic Freeberger gave up two runs across two innings in relief of Odle, taking the loss. Christian Worley yielded a run over two innings. Patrick Galle allowed two runs across two frames.

Peoria opened the scoring with a run in the top of the second inning. Luis Pino walked and advanced to second on a Christian Martin sacrifice bunt. Cameron Nickens lined a double to score Pino.

Quad Cities scored three runs in the home half of the frame to move ahead 3-1.

The Chiefs knotted the game at three immediately in the third. Ian Petrutz singled and scored on Jalin Flores’s 18th double of the year. Josh Kross singled to bring Flores home.

The River Bandits took a 5-3 lead with single runs in the home third and fifth.

The Chiefs narrowed the gap with a run in the sixth. Pino grounded a single and Martin was hit by a pitch. Nickens grounded into a forceout with Pino home on the play due to a throwing error for a 5-4 contest.

The River Bandits scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh to take an 8-4 lead into the ninth inning.

The Chiefs looked to rally in the ninth. With one out, Heriberto Caraballo doubled. Petrutz also doubled to plate Caraballo.

Petrutz swiped third and scored on a Flores single to move Peoria within two at 8-6. Back-to-back strikeouts halted the rally and ended the game.

The Chiefs scored six runs on nine hits. Flores was 2-for-5, including a double, a run scored, and two RBI. Petrutz went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. Nickens doubled and notched an RBI. Kross singled and drove in a run. Caraballo doubled and scored. Pino walked twice, singled, and scored twice. José Suárez doubled.

On the bases, Suárez stole his 18th bag. Petrutz swiped his third base of the year.

On defense, right fielder Suárez committed a fielding error. Pitcher Freeberger picked a runner off first base.

Peoria is 8-12 in the second half and 40-46 overall after taking just two of six from the River Bandits. The Chiefs are in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division. They are off until Friday for the All-Star Break, when they will begin a three-game road set with the South Bend Cubs.

Friday’s game: at South Bend (CHC). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CT.

Palm Beach Cardinals at Daytona Tortugas (suspended)

The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals’ road contest with the Daytona Tortugas was suspended on Sunday due to lightning. The series finale is scheduled to be completed on August 12. The game will resume in the top of the fourth inning with a 2-0 Dayton lead.

Palm Beach is 12-8 in the second half and 45-41 overall. They hold a half-game lead over Daytona in the Florida State League East Division. The Cardinals are off for the All-Star Break until Friday, when they will begin a three-game home series with the St. Lucie Mets.

Friday’s game: vs. St. Lucie (NYM). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CT.

FCL Cardinals (off day)

The Florida Complex League Cardinals were off Sunday, as they prepared for a home contest against the FCL Marlins on Monday.

The Cardinals enter the week following a 3-0 shutout of the FCL Mets on Saturday.

The FCL Cardinals are 17-27 on the season and are eliminated from post-season contention.

Monday’s game: vs. FCL Marlins. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM CT.

DSL Cardinals (off day)

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals were off Sunday, as they geared up for a road contest against the DSL Mets Blue on Monday.

The Cardinals will look to rebound following a close 9-7 loss to the DSL Rangers Blue on Saturday.

The DSL Cardinals are 14-14 on the season.

Monday’s game: at DSL Mets Blue. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 10:00 AM CT.
