Cardinals Minor League Notebook – July 2, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 1-2 on Wednesday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield SS Jesús Báez, hit two home runs, scored three runs and drove in four. Other standouts include Bruce Zimmermann, Dakota Harris and Tre Richardson.

Memphis 0, Charlotte 2 (eight innings)

The Triple-A Redbirds were blanked by the visiting Knights in a rain delayed game that was shortened to seven innings but went an extra inning.

Starter Bruce Zimmermann pitched six scoreless innings, allowed four hits, walked one and fanned six.

Luis Gastelum relieved Zimmerman and threw a scoreless seventh. Tink Hence (0-3, 6.19) surrendered two runs, one earned, in 2/3 of an inning and took the loss. Hancel Rincon secured the final out of the eighth.

The game was scoreless for the scheduled seven innings. In the eighth, Charlotte scored two unanswered runs and Memphis could not answer in the home eighth.

The Memphis offense was held to two hits. The offense was 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.

Zimmermann picked a runner off first base.

Memphis is 2-6 in the second half.

Thursday’s game: vs. Charlotte, Pete Hansen LHP (1-3, 4.83) vs. David Sandlin RHP (1-0, 1.57) 7:05 CT.

Springfield 9, Arkansas 8 (10 innings)

The Double-A Cardinals came back to defeat the Travelers by a 9-8 score in extra innings on Wednesday. Starter Brandt Thompson pitched four innings, gave up four runs on five hits, walked three and fanned four.

Hunter Hayes relieved Thompson and threw two scoreless innings. Tyler Bradt and Edwin Nuñez pitched a scoreless frame each. Jack Findlay surrendered four runs, three earned in 1 2/3 innings. Andrew Schultz secured the final out of the 10th for the win.

Arkansas scored single runs in the first and fourth and two runs in the fifth to lead 4-0.

Springfield cut the lead to 4-2 in the sixth. Jesús Báez was hit by a pitch. Tre Richardson followed with a two-run home run.

The Cardinals added two runs in the seventh to tie the game. Ryan Campos singled and scored on a Báez home run.

The game went into extra innings. The Travelers put up four runs in the top of the 10th to take the lead 8-4.

Springfield answered with five runs in the wild home 10th to win in a walk off 9-8.  With Campos on second base, Báez hit a two-run home run.

Won-Bin Cho singled. Jon Jon Gazdar walked. Brody Moore singled. Dakota Harris plated Cho and Gazdar on a single to tie the game at 8-8.

Honeyman walked. Rainiel Rodriguez drove in Moore on a single to walk off the win.

The Cardinals scored nine runs on 14 hits. Báez was 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Richardson was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Harris was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Rodriguez was 2-for-6 with an RBI. Moore was 2-for-5. Campos scored two runs.

Springfield is 6-2 in the second half.

Thursday’s game: vs. Arkansas, Chen-Wei Lin RHP (2-3, 4.11) vs. Nico Tellache LHP (4-4, 3.82) 7:05 CT.

Peoria 3, Wisconsin 7

The High-A Chiefs fell to the Timber Rattlers by a 7-3 score at Dozer Park on Wednesday. Starter Yhoiker Fajardo pitched 4 1/3 innings, gave up four runs on seven hits, walked two and fanned four. Fajardo took the loss.

Ruben Menes relieved Fajardo and surrendered two runs, one earned, in 1 2/3 innings. Patrick Galle threw a scoreless seventh. Dominic Freeberger yielded one run in the eighth. Jose Davila tossed a scoreless ninth.

Wisconsin scored twice in the third, twice in the fourth, once in the fifth, and once in the top of the sixth to lead 6-0.

Peoria answered in the bottom of the sixth with one run. Cameron Nickens singled. Anyelo Encarnación walked. Jack Gurevitch singled to plate Nickens.

The Chiefs added two runs in the seventh to shrink the lead to 6-3. Cade McGee was hit by a pitch. Ian Petrutz doubled. Nickens reached on an error as McGee and Petrutz scored.

The Timber Rattlers added a final run in the eighth.

The Chiefs scored three runs on seven hits. Gurevitch was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Nickens and Gurevitch were both caught stealing. Catcher McGee made two throwing errors and had a passed ball.

The Chiefs are 4-6 in the second half.

Thursday’s game: vs. Wisconsin, Ty Van Dyke RHP (2-2, 4.44) vs. Daniel Corniel RHP (0-0, 0.00) 6:35 CT.

Palm Beach at Lakeland (postponed)

Wednesday’s game was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be played as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, July 2, made up of two seven-inning contests.

The Low-A Cardinals are 7-3 in the second half.

Thursday’s games: at Lakeland, Jack Martinez RHP (0-6, 4.00) vs. TBD (LKL) 3:00 CT (game one); at Lakeland, Brian Holiday RHP (0-1, 5.03) vs. TBD (LKL) (game two).

FCL Cardinals vs. FCL Marlins (postponed)

Wednesday’s rookie ball game on the backfields of the Jupiter complex was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Cardinals are 13-25 on the season and are in last place in the FCL East.

Thursday’s game: at FCL Astros, TBD vs. TBD 11:00 am CT.

DSL Cardinals – Off day

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals are 13-9 on the season and are tied for second place in the Southeast Division.

Thursday’s game: at DSL NYY Bombers, TBD vs. TBD 10:00 am CT.
