Cardinals Minor League Notebook – June 20, 2026

The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 2-3 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield infielder Dakota Harris, was 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI. Other standouts include Bligh Madris, Leo Bernal, Chen-Wei Lin, Cade McGee, Won-Bin Cho, Miguel Hernández, and Emilio Jiménez.

Memphis Redbirds 4, Nashville Sounds 1

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds edged the Nashville Sounds at AutoZone Park on Thursday.

Brycen Mautz made his 13th start for Memphis. The left-hander pitched 5 ⅔ innings and allowed one run on three hits, five walks, and three strikeouts.

Luis Gastelum struck out three across 1 ⅓ innings in relief of Mautz and earned his seventh win. Ryan Fernandez tossed a scoreless eighth. Scott Blewett fired a shutout ninth frame to pick up his fifth save.

The Redbirds opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning.

César Prieto and Leo Bernal hit back-to-back two-out singles to put runners at the corners. Bligh Madris lined a third consecutive single to plate Prieto and put the Redbirds in front 1-0.

Nashville tied the game in the top of the fifth. Memphis regained the lead with a run in the home sixth.

Joshua Báez was hit by a pitch and moved to second base on a bunt single from Prieto. Bernal walked to load the bases with no outs. Madris singled home Báez to move the Redbirds ahead 2-1.

The Redbirds added two insurance runs in the eighth.

Prieto singled and scored on a two-run home run from Bernal, his eighth of the year, for a 4-1 Memphis lead.

The Redbirds scored four runs on eight hits. Bernal was 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run, and two RBI. Madris was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Prieto went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

On the bases, Báez was caught stealing second base.

On defense, Báez nailed a runner at home plate from left field. The Redbirds turned two double plays and did not commit an error.

Memphis is 46-27 on the season. Their magic number to clinch a first half International League West Division title is one.

Saturday’s game: vs. Nashville. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM CT.

Springfield Cardinals 10 at Wichita Wind Surge 4

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals took a no-hitter into the seventh inning as they routed the Wind Surge in Wichita on Friday.

Chen-Wei Lin started his 10th game in his 13th appearance for the Cardinals. The right-hander threw six scoreless, no-hit innings on three walks and six strikeouts. Lin earned his second win.

Andrew Schultz yielded two runs in the seventh inning in relief of Lin. Nelfy Ynfante allowed a run in the eighth. Lefty Michael Watson gave up a run in the ninth but held on to finish the game.

Springfield broke the scoreless tie with a run in the top of the fourth inning.

Dakota Harris and Brody Moore hit back-to-back singles. Moore and Harris stole second and third base, respectively, on a double steal. Harris crossed home plate on a Zach Levenson groundout for a 1-0 Cardinals lead.

Springfield expanded the lead with a four-run fifth inning.

Rainiel Rodriguez lined a single and moved to third base on a Deniel Ortiz double. Ryan Campos legged out an infield single to plate Rodriguez and double the lead to 2-0, with Ortiz to third base. Miguel Ugueto hit a third consecutive single to bring Ortiz home for the third Springfield run. Ugueto and Campos moved to second and third base, respectively, on a Travis Honeyman groundout. Dakota Harris hit a groundball double to score Ugueto and Campos for a 5-0 Cardinals lead.

Springfield pulled ahead further with three runs in the seventh.

Campos singled, Ugueto walked, and Honeyman lined a single to load the bases with no outs. Harris singled home Campos and Ugueto to extend the lead to 7-0, with Honeyman to second base. Honeyman advanced to third base on a Moore flyout and scored on a sacrifice fly from Zach Levenson to stretch the lead to 8-0.

Wichita snapped the no-hitter and shutout with a two-run home seventh and a run in the eighth to dent the score to 8-3. Springfield took two runs back in the ninth.

Honeyman began the frame with an infield single. Harris hit a double, though Honeyman was thrown out at home on the play. Harris stole third base and scored on a single from Moore for a 9-3 lead. Moore swiped second base. Jon Jon Gazdar singled to move Moore to third base and put runners at the corners. Rodriguez scorched a single to plate Moore for a 10-3 Cardinals lead.

The Cardinals collected eight hits with runners in scoring position in the win.

Springfield scored 10 runs on 18 hits. Harris was 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, and four RBI.

Gazdar was 4-for-6 with a double. In his Springfield return, Ortiz walked twice, doubled, and scored a run. Campos was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Rodriguez singled twice, scored a run, and drove in a run. Ugueto walked, scored twice, singled, and drove in a run. Moore singled twice, scored a run, and notched an RBI. Levenson tallied two RBI. Eight of nine hitters tallied a hit and seven of nine recorded an RBI.

On the bases, Harris stole third base three times to increase his season total to 22. Moore swiped two bases.

On defense, Ugueto threw a runner out at second base from  center field to highlight an errorless night.

Springfield is 29-37 on the season.

Saturday’s game: at Wichita. TBA vs. RHP Sam Armstrong (2-5, 4.38) 6:05 PM CT.

Peoria Chiefs 3, Dayton Dragons 7

The High-A Peoria Chiefs fell to the Dayton Dragons at Dozer Park on Friday, their sixth consecutive loss.

Leonel Sequera made his 13th start for the Chiefs. The right-hander pitched five innings and allowed four runs on six hits, two walks, and six strikeouts. Sequera took the loss.

Bobby Olsen struck out four and gave up a run across two innings in relief of Sequera. Jawilme Ramírez yielded a run in the eighth. Dominic Freeberger gave up a run in the ninth.

Dayton scored twice in the top of the first inning. Peoria trimmed the lead in half in the bottom of the frame.

Cade McGee mashed his ninth home run of the season, a solo shot, for a 2-1 score.

The Dragons scored a second pair of runs in the second inning to move ahead 4-1. The Chiefs narrowed the gap to two with a run in the fourth.

Jalin Flores led-off the inning with his third triple. Won-Bin Cho followed with his 14th double to score Flores and bring the Chiefs within two at 4-2.

Dayton took the run back in the sixth. The Chiefs moved back within two in the home seventh.

Christian Martin began the frame with a walk. Jose Cordoba and Jack Gurevitch hit back-to-back singles to load the bases with no outs. With two outs, Cho drew a bases-loaded walk to force Martin home and bring the Chiefs closer at 5-3.

The Dragons added a run apiece in the eighth and ninth innings. Peoria was unable to answer.

The Chiefs scored three runs on eight hits. Cho walked, doubled, and drove in two runs. McGee hit a solo home run. Flores was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored. The lineup was just 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.

Peoria is 0-1 in the first half and 32-35 overall.

Saturday’s game: RHP Jacob Odle (3-4, 2.72) vs. RHP Jose Montero (3-1, 5.07) 7:05 PM CT.

Palm Beach Cardinals (suspended)

The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals’ contest with the Jupiter Hammerheads was suspended in the fifth inning on Friday due to inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Saturday.

The game will resume in the top of the fifth inning and a 1-1 score.

The Cardinals finished the first half at 33-33. They tied for second place in the Florida State League East, four games behind Jupiter.

Saturday’s games: The suspended game is slated to resume at 3:00PM CT.

Game Two: RHP Payton Graham (0-1, 3.76) vs. RHP Walin Castillo (1-4, 3.42) The game is slated to begin shortly after game one’s completion.

FCL Cardinals 5, FCL Nationals 7 (Seven innings)

The Florida Complex League Cardinals lost a close home contest to the FCL Nationals in seven innings on Friday.

Earle Zulueta made his fifth start in his seventh appearance for the Cardinals. The right-hander threw 1 ⅓ innings and allowed five runs on three hits, three walks, and one strikeout. Zulueta took the loss.

Jarol Baéz fired 1 ⅔ scoreless innings in relief of Zulueta. Alejandro Lóaiza struck out three and yielded a run over 1 ⅔ innings. Zeke Wood fanned two across 1 ⅓ shutout frames. Yordy Herrera gave up an unearned run in the seventh.

The Nationals opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. The Cardinals grabbed the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first.

Miguel Hernández drew a lead-off walk. Yairo Padilla and Kenly Hunter each singled to load the bases with one out. J.P. Cabrera lined a two-out single to bring Hernández and Padilla home and put the Cardinals in front 2-1.

The Nationals jumped ahead 5-2 with a four-run second frame. The Cardinals moved within three with a run in the second.

Facundo Velásquez walked and swiped second base. Hernández took his second walk of the game. Padilla grounded a single to bring Velásquez home for a 5-3 contest.

The Cardinals narrowed the score to one run in the third. Royelny Strop hit a single and stole second base. Daniel Rojas connected for a two-out single to bring Strop home and bring the Cardinals within a run at 5-4.

The Nationals plated a run in the top of the fourth to regain a two-run lead. The Cardinals took the run back in the home fourth.

Hernández drilled his sixth home run of the year, a solo shot, to bring the Cardinals back within one at 6-5.

The Nationals added an insurance run in the seventh for a 7-5 score. The Cardinals left both tying runs on base in the home seventh, as the rally fell short.

The FCL Cardinals scored five runs on 10 hits. Hernández drew two walks, scored two runs, and hit a home run. Padilla was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Cabrera singled and drove in two runs. Rojas singled and notched an RBI. Hunter was 3-for-4.

On the bases, Strop stole his seventh bag. Rojas stole his first base of the year. Cristofer Lebrón stole his 12th bag and was caught stealing home.

On defense, shortstop Hernández committed a fielding error. Second baseman Rojas made two fielding errors. Right fielder Strop collected two outfield assists as he threw a runner out at both second and third base. Catcher Cabrera picked a runner off third base.

The FCL Cardinals are 10-22 on the season. They are off Saturday and Sunday and will play a road contest with the FCL Astros on Monday.

Monday’s game: at FCL Astros. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM CT.

DSL Cardinals 4, DSL Phillies 7 (Seven innings)

The Dominican Summer League Cardinals dropped a tight contest to the DSL Phillies in seven innings on Friday.

Efrén Álvarez made his third career start for the Cardinals. The right-hander threw two innings and allowed five runs on five hits, four walks, and three strikeouts, taking the loss.

Emilio Jiménez fired three scoreless, no-hit innings with four strikeouts in relief of  Álvarez.

Ryan Rodríguez yielded two runs in an inning of work. Juan Santillán lowered his ERA to 1.08 with a scoreless seventh frame.

The Phillies grabbed an early 5-0 lead with two runs in the top of the first and three runs in the second. The Cardinals entered the scoreboard in the bottom of the second.

Misael Sánchez reached base on a fielding error. Roberth Castillo followed with a walk. Johnny Chaparro grounded into a double play, with Sánchez to third base and Chaparro and Castillo out at first and second base, respectively. Jesús Pérez singled home Sánchez to put the Cardinals on the board at 5-1.

The Cardinals plated three runs in the fourth to move within one run.

Luis Estrella hit a lead-off single. Castillo drew a walk. Chaparro ripped a double to score Estrella for the second Cardinals run, with Castillo to third base.

Pérez dropped a single to bring Castillo home to bring the Cardinals within two at 5-3, with Chaparro to third base. Diego Conseción brought Chaparro home via a groundout to make it a one-run game at 5-4.

The Phillies scored twice in the sixth to move ahead 7-4. The Cardinals were unable to answer.

The DSL Cardinals scored four runs on seven hits. Pérez was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Chaparro doubled, scored a run, and drove in a run. Conseción collected an RBI. Castillo drew three walks and scored a run. Estrella was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Cardinals did not steal a base nor commit an error.

The DSL Cardinals are 7-7 on the season. They will play a road contest with the DSL Mets Blue on Saturday.
