The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-5 on Thursday as Peoria and Palm Beach finished their first halves with losses. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Memphis 1B Bligh Madris, was 2-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run. Other standouts: Hunter Dobbins, Ryan Mitchell, Hendrick Cana and Misael Sánchez.

The Triple-A Redbirds beat the Sounds by the score of 7-3 at AutoZone Park on Thursday.
Starter Hunter Dobbins pitched five innings, gave up three unearned runs on four hits, and fanned five to earn his fourth win.
In his Memphis return, Ryan Murphy relieved Dobbins and threw three scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Austin Love tossed a scoreless ninth.
Memphis struck quickly, going up 4-0 in the first inning. Victor Scott singled and stole second base. César Prieto singled to score Scott. Prieto stole second base. Joshua Báez was hit by a pitch. Báez was eliminated in a force out by Leo Bernal. Bligh Madris hit a three-run home run.

Nashville answered with three runs in the second to shrink the lead to 4-3.
The Redbirds added two runs fifth to extend the lead to 6-3. Báez thumped a solo home run, his fifth of the week and league-leading 24th. Madris walked and stole second base. Ramon Mendoza walked. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Matt Koperniak walked. Jeremy Rivas plated Madris on a single.

Memphis scored a final run sixth on a solo home run by Thomas Saggese to make it a 7-3 win.

The offense scored seven runs on nine hits. Madris was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Scott stole two bases. Prieto swiped his second bag. Madris stole his fourth base.
Mendoza made a throwing error. Prieto had a fielding miscue. Bernal had a passed ball.
Memphis is 45-27 on the season and is in first place in the International League. Their magic number to clinch the first half and home field advantage in the playoffs is three.

The Double-A Cardinals opened their second half with a win, topping the Wind Surge by the score of 8-6 in Wichita on Thursday.
Starter Braden Davis pitched 3 2/3 innings, gave up five runs on six hits, including a grand slam, walked five and struck out one.
Hunter Hayes relieved Davis and threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Randel Clemente yielded one run in two innings. D.J. Carpenter tossed the final 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

The Cardinals went up 6-0 in the third inning. Zach Levenson walked. Graysen Tarlow followed with a two-run home run. Miguel Villarroel and Jon Jon Gazdar singled. Rainiel Rodriguez walked. Miguel Ugueto doubled to clear the bases. Tre Richardson plated Ugueto on a single.

Wichita answered with five runs, including a grand slam, in the fourth to cut the lead to 6-5.
Springfield added a run in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-5. Trey Paige walked, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Richardson walked. Paige scored on a sac fly by Dakota Harris.
The Wind Surge scored one run in the seventh to shrink the lead to 7-6.
The Cardinals put up a final run in the eighth to win 8-6. Levenson doubled and scored on a single by Villarroel.
The Cardinals scored eight runs on nine hits. Villarroel was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Levenson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Ugueto had two RBI.
Richardson stole four bases. Levenson swiped his first bag.
Springfield is 1-0 in the second half.

Peoria 1, Dayton 3 (seven innings, game one)
The Chiefs lost to the Dragons in the first game of a twin bill at Dozer Park to conclude the first half.
Starter Ty Van Dyke pitched three innings, gave up three runs on five hits, walked one and struck out two. Van Dyke took the loss.
Nate Dohm relieved Van Dyke and threw three scoreless innings of relief with four strikeouts. Nolan Sparks tossed a scoreless seventh.
Dayton went up 3-0 in the first inning.
Peoria partially answered in the home first with a solo home run by Jalin Flores.

There was no scoring over the final six innings.
The Peoria offense scored one run on three hits. They were 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and left three men on base.

Peoria 1, Dayton 18 (seven innings, game two)
The Dragons inflicted an 18-1 massacre on the visiting Chiefs in the second game of the twin bill on Thursday. All four Peoria pitchers gave up multiple runs.
Starter Tanner Franklin pitched 2 1/3 innings, gave up seven runs, six earned, on six hits, walked two and fanned four. Franklin took the loss.
Gerardo Salas relieved Franklin and surrendered two runs in 1 2/3 innings. Jose Davila yielded three runs in 1 2/3 innings. Patrick Galle relinquished four runs in 1/3 innings. Ruben Menes allowed two runs in the seventh.
Dayton went up 3-0 in the first inning.
Peoria scored its only run in the second to cut the lead to 3-1. Sammy Hernandez doubled and scored on a single by Christian Martin.

The Dragons piled on with five runs in the third, one in the fourth, seven in the sixth, and two in the seventh to win 18-1.
The Chiefs scored one run on four hits. Martin was 2-for-3 with an RBI. The offense was 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
Martin was caught stealing. Jack Gurevitch made a throwing error.
The Chiefs are on a five-game losing skid, finishing the first half at 32-34, in third place in the Midwest League West, nine games back of South Bend. By sweeping Peoria on Thursday, Dayton won the East Division.

The Beach Birds ended their first half with a loss, edged by the Hammerheads by a 9-8 score at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday.
Starter Brian Holiday pitched four innings, gave up three runs on five hits, and fanned six.
Hunter Kublick relieved Holiday, surrendered three runs in the fifth, and took the loss. Dylan Driessen allowed two unearned runs in the sixth. Liam Best yielded one run in the final two innings.
The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Ryan Weingartner doubled. Ryan Mitchell walked. Weingartner stole third. Mitchell stole second. Michael Dattalo walked. Weingartner scored on a fielder’s choice by Matthew Miura.
The Hammerheads took a 3-1 lead in the home first.
Palm Beach added a run in the third to cut the lead to 3-2. Brayden Smith doubled. Weingartner walked. Mitchell was hit by a pitch. Dattalo walked and Weingartner scored.
The Beach Birds took a 4-3 lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. Ryan Mitchell hit a solo home run. Miura singled. Yordalin Peña reached on a fielding error. Jonathan Mejía singled to plate Miura.

Jupiter answered with three runs in the home fifth to regain the lead at 6-4.
Palm Beach made it 6-5 in the top of the sixth. Trevor Haskins doubled and later scored on a single by Dattalo.
The Hammerheads extended the lead to 8-5 in the bottom of the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, a solo home run by Miura made it 8-6.

Jupiter answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-6 lead.
Palm Beach put up two runs in the eighth for the final score of 9-8. Haskins singled, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Weingartner, who advanced to second on an error. Weingartner then stole third and scored on a sac fly by Mitchell.
The Cardinals scored eight runs on 10 hits. Weingartner was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Miura was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Haskins was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Dattalo and Mitchell each had two RBI.
Weingartner stole two bases. Mitchell swiped his 19th bag. Haskins stole his ninth base. Smith and Peña were caught stealing. Mejía was picked off first base.
Haskins made a throwing error. Holiday picked a runner off first base. Heath had a passed ball.
The Cardinals finished the first half at 33-33. They tied for second place in the Florida State League East, four games back of Jupiter.

FCL Cardinals 2 at FCL Mets 4 (seven innings)
The rookie Cardinals fell to the Mets by a 4-2 score on Thursday.
Starter Jan Cabrera pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up three runs on seven hits and fanned seven. Cabrera took the loss.
Giovanni Vargas relieved Cabrera and surrendered one run in 1 1/3 innings.
The Mets went up 2-0 in the third inning.
The Cardinals scored one run in the top of the fourth to cut the lead in half. Kenly Hunter was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a ground out by Royelny Strop. Bracewell Taveras singled to score Hunter.
The Mets answered with single runs in the fourth and sixth to lead 4-1.
The Cardinals rallied for one more in the seventh on a solo home run by Daniel Rojas to bring the final score to 4-2.
The Cardinals scored two runs on three hits. The Rojas home run was the only extra base hit. The offense was 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base.
The Cardinals are 10-21 on the season. They are in last place in the FCL East, 13.5 games back of FCL Houston.

DSL Cardinals 4, DSL Mets Orange 5
The Dominican Cardinals were edged by the Mets Orange by a 5-4 score on Thursday.
Starter Hendrick Caña pitched five innings, gave up one unearned run on four hits and fanned 11.
Domingo Mejía relieved Caña and surrendered three runs, two earned, in 1 1/3 innings. Kriscol Peralta yielded one run in two innings and took the loss. Brayan Amoroso tossed the final 2/3 scoreless inning.
The Mets Orange took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
The Cardinals answered with two runs in the third to take the lead. Luis Estrella singled. Misael Sánchez doubled to plate Estrella. Sánchez scored on a single by Jhonny Chaparro.
The Cardinals added two runs in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-1. Sebastian Rojas singled. Estrella walked. Sánchez doubled to score Rojas. Estrella came home on a sac fly by Chaparro.
The Mets Orange responded with three runs in the sixth to tie the game. They scored one in the ninth for the winning margin.
The Cardinals scored four runs on eight hits. Sánchez was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Chaparro drove in two.
Jesús Pérez made a throwing error. Christian Sáez had a fielding miscue.
The Cardinals are 7-6 on the season and are in second place in the DSL Southeast.
