It should be a fun matchup to see McGonigle and Wetherhokt in the same matchup. I really like McGonigle and think he is a future star in the league as well. Him and Wetherholt should be leading their teams for years to come. Hopefully both get long term extensions with their clubs.

This is the very first CCFF of the 2026 season!

    That’s Cardinals Catfish Fiddlers Friday!

Not sure where Pugs is but I bet he will be enjoying some Catfish Fiddlers tomorrow. As will I. At the Amish restaurant north of town on Boggs Lake where I will be having din-din.

I’m wondering what the logic or reason is behind a 12:10 p.m. first pitch on a Friday afternoon? Ladies Day? Businessman Special? That start time doesn’t really make too much sense, but not too many things do these days.

    You asked …

The Detroit Tigers home opener against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, April 3, 2026, starts at 1:10 p.m. ET (with pregame coverage at noon) because it is the team’s traditional home opener, treated like a holiday in Detroit. Afternoon starts for early-season games also accommodate warmer weather and better fan attendance.

The two promos that I mentioned in my prior comment got me to wondering if any teams still have strait A night for the kiddos? I knew a couple of girls in school who qualified for those free tickets. None of us guys ever got straight A’s. We were too busy playing baseball and collecting trading cards…Haha!

Oh, okay. Thanks ’64! That makes perfect sense and I should have thought of that. When I first saw the start time I was thinking that they could sell a lot more tickets for a Friday evening game when everyone was off work and out of school.

Im glad I saw this thread. I’m off work today and had no idea it was a 12 o’clock game.

Yeah, opening day is usually a big deal. It is out here even though the Rockies are not very good – opening day is still sort of a holiday with all sorts of things going on. The Rox open against the Phillies with a 2:10 local time start.

I decided to take a break from my usual part-time gig of doing contract accounting/finance work, and joined the Rockies as sort of a grunt, working as a ticket taker, bag checker, usher and that sort of thing. Lousy pay compared to accounting work, but I am going to give it a go this season and see if it might be something I do over the next few summers. Will probably work about 2/3s of the games.

But back to your regularly scheduled program. Go Cardinals!

    Hope that works well, Bikemike!

Since that amazing opening day, Church is 0 for 14 with 6 Ks. In the meantime, Saggese has only had 7 ABs. More playing time for Saggese in LF? Velasquez has a .118 OPS at Memphis, Baez .697. The AAA offense has mostly been Crooks, Prieto, Jordan, Bernal, and Mendoza, (they are the five at an OPS of .790 or higher) and none of those are outfielders. Small sample and all that, but I don’t see someone at AAA obviously pushing for MLB OF time yet.

That sounds fun BikeMike. Enjoy the time you will be spending at the ballpark.

With Herrera playing C some, Pozo is just a waste of a roster spot at this point unfortunately.

I would consider calling io Blaze Jordan to have him get some starts at DH with Herrera at C. Gorman/Urias 3B platoon. Herrera at C allows the most opportunities to write in a lineup that can do some damage.

The hardest part would be the 40 man spot needed for but there. My choice for a DFA would be Prieto or Fernandez.

I’m wondering about Jordan, too, though I’d think they would give him at least a couple months of AAA time. Injuries might sort the roster spot by then. If not, I had leaned toward Prieto, but his defense seems from eyeball to have improved and he is raking the ball. I’m now intrigued that he might be the lefty utility guy to Saggese’s righty, with Fermin being traded before too long. Torres? Raquet?

Thanks Gags! Yeah, Church has looked lost since opening day. Right now no one is pushing him though.

Hopefully the new regime is smart enough not to bring Jordan up before a meaningful stint in AAA.

    FYI,
Ohtani has finally jacked his first dinger of the season. A 3-run dong off our old buddy Miles Mikolas.

I think they have a plan they will stick to. Rushing guys to the ML team probably isn’t part of that plan.

Jordan has 90 games at AAA so unsure how that is rushing him. He likely would be an up down type anyway and even if he accrued a year of service it wouldn’t matter most likely for the long term club. Jordan is more of a fringe prospect in my opinion and this point is when the PA are most available to try him out. Later on when Crooks or Bernal are up Herrera will be full time DH and Jordan won’t have a chance for PA at that point. May as well give him a shot to see if he can hack it at all.

I thought the pen was looking better at the end of the year last year, but with some of the moves I generally really dislike the arms available out of the pen this year.

That’s the point ATM. He isn’t ready for ML. He needs more development. No reason to bring him up unless he plays.
