Cardinals 2025 Arizona Fall League Recap

The St. Louis Cardinals sent eight prospects to join the Glendale Desert Dogs in the 2025 AFL season, consisting of one catcher, two outfielders, and five right-handed pitchers. Outfielder Miguel Ugueto hit .350. Pitchers Chen-Wei Lin and Darlin Saladin logged the most innings of the group, as all three were named AFL Fall Stars.

Position Players

Graysen Tarlow (Catcher)

Graysen Tarlow

Tarlow turned in his strongest minor league season with the bat in 2025, as he hit .296 with a home run and 29 RBI between High-A Peoria and Double-A Springfield.

The 24-year-old was one of three catchers on the Desert Dogs’ roster and received the most playing time of the trio as he appeared in 10 games overall.

Tarlow hit .161 in the AFL and collected five hits, one of which was a double, and drove in one run. His walk-to-strikeout ratio was relatively solid, as he drew five walks to seven strikeouts.

Despite just one stolen base in his professional career, Tarlow showcased his speed in the AFL with three swiped bags and was not caught stealing once. He scored four runs in the campaign, additionally.

Travis Honeyman (Outfielder)

Travis Honeyman

Travis Honeyman played in 82 games in the 2025 MiLB season and earned a promotion from Low-A Palm Beach to High-A Peoria during the year. He hit .287 with three home runs and 27 RBI between the two stops.

In the AFL, Honeyman appeared in just 13 games due to a hit by pitch on the knee and played all three outfield positions. The 24-year-old scored seven runs and hit .182 with eight hits, including a double and two home runs, along with eight RBI.

Honeyman also drew five walks and stole four bases without getting caught once.

Miguel Ugueto (Outfielder)

Miguel Ugueto played 60 games during the 2025 MiLB season, including 50 for the Texas League Champion Springfield Cardinals.

The 23-year-old received more playing time than expected due to Honeyman’s injury and put together a strong AFL campaign. His highlight is the fourth-highest batting average on Glendale and 14th highest in the entire AFL, at .350.

Ugueto collected 21 hits, including three doubles and one home run, and tallied a solid 16 RBI across 17 games. The right-handed hitter tallied a .397 on-base percentage, .450 slugging percentage, and .847 OPS. Ugueto scored 10 runs and stole four bases.

Ugueto was one of three Cardinals selected to the AFL Fall Stars Game, and he delivered a game-tying two-run single in the ninth inning of the contest.

Ugueto’s clutch hitting showed up again in the AFL quarterfinals, as he slugged a three-run home run to extend the Desert Dogs’ lead.

Ugueto saw time at all three outfield positions in his AFL campaign and was the strongest Cardinals prospect offensively in the desert.

Pitchers

Chen-Wei Lin (SP)

Chen-Wei Lin

Lin spent the majority of his 2025 season with the Peoria Chiefs but received a late-seaon promotion to Springfield, where he made his final four starts.

Lin tied for second place with five starts for Glendale and tied for the team’s win lead at three.

The 23-year-old turned in an especially strong start on October 17, with 3 ⅔ scoreless frames, with 31 of his 37 pitches finding the strike zone as he picked up the win.

Lin was named the AFL Pitcher of the Week on November 10, following another dominant outing.

Lin was selected for the AFL Fall Stars Game, but he did not see action.

Across five AFL starts, the right-hander posted a 3-1 record and threw 12 ⅓ innings with a 6.57 ERA. Lin struck out more hitters (19) than hits allowed (13) and walks issued (8).

Darlin Saladin (RP)

Darlin Saladin

The youngest of the group, Saladin spent his entire 2025 season in Peoria. In the Midwest League, he posted the second-highest inning total in his career at 94 ⅔ over 13 starts and 13 relief appearances and a 4.85 ERA.

The right-hander dazzled in the AFL, with a pristine 0.82 ERA and a 1-0 record.

The 22-year-old pitched 11 innings in five games, including one start, and allowed just two runs on six hits, seven walks, and 17 strikeouts.

The right-hander dominated the Salt River Rafters on October 23, when he pitched three shutout frames on just two hits, no walks, and six strikeouts out of the bullpen.

Saladin’s lone start in the AFL came against the Peoria Javelinas, as he threw three innings and struck out six on October 31.

Saladin pitched to a perfect 0.00 ERA in relief, as his lone earned run scored in his one start. In the AFL Fall Stars Game, he took the loss in relief as his control left him.

Tyler Bradt (RP)

Tyler Bradt

Bradt split his 2025 MiLB season between Peoria and Springfield, posting a 2.98 ERA across 63 ⅓ innings, composed of 37 games, three as the starting pitcher.

The right-hander made eight AFL relief appearances for Glendale and pitched eight innings. The 24-year-old allowed just seven hits and four runs for a 4.50 ERA overall.

Bradt issued just one long ball, but he walked more (11) than he fanned (10).

D.J. Carpenter (RP)

D.J. Carpenter

Carpenter played his entire 2025 MiLB season with the Peoria Chiefs and made 36 relief appearances. He tossed 37 innings for a 5.35 ERA.

The right-hander took the mound eight times in the AFL and pitched six innings. He allowed as many earned runs as innings pitched for a 9.00 ERA.

Carpenter recorded twice as many strikeouts (8) than walks issued (4), with his highlight a perfect inning against the Scottsdale Scorpions on November 7.

Overall, Carpenter pitched six innings and allowed seven runs, six earned, on seven hits, four walks, and eight strikeouts.

Randel Clemente (RP)

Randel Clemente

Clemente earned two promotions during the 2025 season as he started in Low-A Palm Beach and finished with Double-A Springfield. He pitched to a 4.25 ERA in 39 relief appearances and 53 innings across all three levels.

In the AFL, Clemente threw eight innings across eight relief appearances.

The right-hander tallied a 1-1 record and allowed six runs, five earned, on nine hits, seven walks, and 11 strikeouts cumulatively.

Clemente showed his ability to keep the ball in the park, as he did not issue a home run for Glendale.

All eight Cardinals had positives in the desert, with much to be excited about as they further develop in their careers.
