The Glendale Desert Dogs defeated the Scottsdale Scorpions in Tuesday’s AFL action. Outfielder Miguel Ugueto was a perfect 2-for-2, including a double and two RBI. Right-hander Randel Clemente picked up the win in relief.
Results for the Arizona Fall League game played on Tuesday, November 11.
Glendale Desert Dogs 11 at Scottsdale Scorpions 6 (7 innings)
The Glendale Desert Dogs defeated the Scorpions by the score of 11-6 on Friday. Miguel Ugueto and pitcher Randel Clemente saw action in the game.
Ugueto played RF and hit fifth.
He went 2-for-2 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored.
The right-handed hitter stepped to the plate with a runner at second base and one out in the top of the first inning, and lined a single to score a run. Ugueto was then caught stealing second base.
Ugueto doubled in the third inning but was left stranded. In the fifth he hit a sac fly that scored the fifth run of the game and marked Ugueto’s second RBI. Ugueto drew a walk in the seventh and later scored the sixth Glendale run on a wild pitch.
Clemente took the mound with one out in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded and the score 6-5 in favor of Glendale.
Clemente allowed the tying run to score on a sac fly. He threw a wild pitch and hit a batter. He then struck out the final hitter to end the inning.
Glendale scored five runs in the top of the seventh.
Clemente returned for the home half of the seventh. He struck out the first two batters. He walked the third hitter, then struck out the next batter to end the inning and the game.
Clemente was charged with a blown save, but picked up his first AFL win. He pitched 1 ⅔ scoreless innings on no hits, one walk, and four strikeouts. The right-hander threw 39 pitches, 19 for strikes.
No other Cardinal saw action. This was the final game of the regular season. Glendale will play Peoria in the Division Series. A win will send them to the Semifinals on Thursday.
The Desert Dogs are 11-16 on the season.
