RHP Sonny Gray (14-8, 4.33) vs. LHP Robbie Ray (11-8, 3.65)
FanDuel // KMOXSeptember 24, 2025 at 7:09 pm #292979I’ll bump this one. Not because I have anything insightful to say about it, but it’s today’s game. And it’s Gray’s last start this year. I think he bows out with 6IP, 1ER.

September 24, 2025 at 8:43 pm #292985I’ve been up since 4am but I don’t work tomorrow so I drank a cup of coffee maybe I make it thru 5. We are at the end. That makes me sad. But it has promise to be an interesting offseason.
September 24, 2025 at 9:08 pm #292987It’s getting to be late season lunacy over in the junior circuit…The Yankees have caught the Blue Jays in the ALE and the Indians have now taken a 1 game lead over the Tigers in the ALC. There’s also some intense late season action taking place in the NL for the final WC with the Reds trailing the Pirates 4-3 in the home half of the 11th at GABP while the Mets trail the Cubs by a score of 8-2 in the visitor half of the 6th at Wrigley. The Dbacks and Dodgers are underway in AZ tied up at 1-1 in the visitor half of the 2nd. I’ll be watching the board.

jj-cf-stlParticipantThanks Dom
September 24, 2025 at 9:20 pm #292990Unbelievable…The Reds lose to the Bucs 4-3 in 11 innings at GABP and squander a chance to pull even with the Mets for the final NLWC. The Mets are doing their best to hand that last berth to someone and no one seems to want it. Sparky’s mad as hell…

jj-cf-stlParticipantVictor started a 2out rally
2-1 stlSeptember 24, 2025 at 10:57 pm #292996If the Cardinals can somehow place this game in the W column they’d be 2.5 games in back of a WC berth with 3 games to play. Did I just say that?
September 24, 2025 at 11:09 pm #292997The Dodgers lead the Dbacks by a score of 4-3 in the home half of the 8th at AZ with the Snakes still batting with baserunners at the corners and only 1 out. I’ll take anyone other than the Mets…Go, Dbacks!
September 24, 2025 at 11:12 pm #292998Dbacks tie it up at 4-4 on a sac-fly.
September 24, 2025 at 11:18 pm #292999Fermin proves to be the final out on an attempted bunt for a base hit with the team down by a run. I can’t recall the last time I saw that happen with any team. That play sums up the sad state of Redbirdland.
September 24, 2025 at 11:31 pm #293000With this loss by the Cardinals, I would even take a Cubs sweep this weekend to better our draft position. I can’t believe I’m saying that.
September 25, 2025 at 5:09 am #293003What are our previous first round picks doing for us? Its hard to get excited even about that.
September 25, 2025 at 6:45 am #293008Unlike other sports, except for really really rare players like Paul Skenes, even top 10 baseball picks can take a few years to reach and impact the big league club.
The draft is pretty much a crap shoot. It’s a game of numbers. Sign dozens of players to minor league contracts, start cranking the handle on your minor league system, and see what it spits out of AAA on an annual basis.
As barren and bereft as the Cardinals system has been it will now take 2-3 years to get it back up to speed – it just will – but it’s the only way to consistently fill out a major league roster AND have the trade capital to go get 3-4 proven ML players to turn a good roster into a great one.
But you must have the machine in place to internally create the good roster before you can trade it into a great one.
September 25, 2025 at 7:14 am #293010In general, the Cardinals have not gotten great value out of their first round picks. Walker, Gorman, and McGreevey are on the team now but only 2 of the 3 are above replacement level. Some relatively recent first round picks that worked out decently were Wong, Wacha, Flaherty, and Hudson. But almost every other pick since 2012 in the first round has been a genuine failure. The second round is mostly the same story. Fortunately, they’ve been really good in rounds 3-10.
We will have to wait a few years to see the results of the Bloom influence.

jj-cf-stlParticipantDoes Flores have a NTC?
September 25, 2025 at 8:10 am #293014I can’t speak to Flores’ contract in content or duration, but I do expect front office changes as the POBO transition occurs. I doubt many incumbents have contracts longer than Mo’s. Also, remember that the GM job is open. Should be an interesting off-season with people movement on and off the field.
September 25, 2025 at 8:48 am #293015Haven’t stayed up for our games and instead have been watching the Guardians-Tigers series. Man, those Guards are something else! The fans are having a party every night. Fun to see and it takes me back to some of our clubs that came on strong late.
This Tigers collapse, along with the Guardians charge (The “Chargin’ Guards!”) is similar to the infamous “Phillie Phlop” in ‘64, when they squandered a 6 1/2 game lead with 12 to play by dropping 10 straight. We proceeded to win 8 in a row that included the 3 game sweep of the Quakers.
And how about Cal Raleigh! 60!!
September 26, 2025 at 4:21 pm #293114Eliminated by Andrew Kinizer…man it sucks being a cardinals fan right now.
