Cardinals Minor League Notebook – September 13, 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals system was 2-0 on Friday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Springfield RF Joshua Baez, was 2-for-3 with a two-run home run. Other standouts include Matt Koperniak and Brycen Mautz.

Memphis 6 at Jacksonville 1

The Triple-A Redbirds beat the Jumbo Shrimp by the score of 6-1 on Friday.

Starter Curtis Taylor pitched 4 1/3 innings, gave up one run on three hits, fanned five and walked three.

Gerson Moreno relieved Taylor and threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Skylar Hales hurled two shutout innings to earn the win. Andre Granillo tossed a scoreless ninth.

Memphis went up 2-0 in the first inning. JJ Wetherholt walked and advanced to second on a disengagement violation. Matt Koperniak singled to plate Wetherholt.

Koperniak stole second base and crossed home plate on a single by Matt Lloyd.

Jacksonville scored one run in the third to cut the lead to 2-1. The Redbirds added a run in the fifth to increase the lead to 3-1. Mike Antico tripled and scored on a single by Wetherholt.

Memphis extended their lead to 6-1 with a three-run seventh. Michael Siani walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Antico walked. Wetherholt was hit by a pitch to load the bases. César Prieto walked to bring Siani home. Koperniak singled to plate Antico.

Wetherholt came home on a double play ball from Blaze Jordan.

The offense scored six runs on seven hits. Koperniak was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Wetherholt and Antico each scored two runs.

On the bases, Koperniak stole his ninth bag of the season. Lloyd swiped his seventh.

The Redbirds turned four double plays on defense.

Memphis is 75-65 overall, 34-33 in the second half. They are 10 games back of Scranton in the IL. Friday’s win clinched the Redbirds’ first winning season since 2018.

 Saturday’s game: at Jacksonville, Max Rajcic RHP (0-2, 4.85) vs. Thomas White LHP (0-0, 5.79) 5:35 CT.

Springfield 4, San Antonio 3

The Double-A Springfield Cardinals edged the Missions in a 4-3 contest at Hammons Field on Friday.

Starter Brycen Mautz pitched five innings, gave up one run on four hits, fanned seven and walked one to earn his eighth win.

Tyler Bradt relieved Mautz and surrendered two runs in ⅔  innings. Michael Watson threw 2 ⅓  scoreless innings to lower his Double-A ERA to 1.11. Luis Gastelum tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his 10th save.

The Cardinals took a 3-0 in the first inning. Nolan Arenado singled. Joshua Baez followed with a two-run home run, his 14th with Springfield.

Chase Davis doubled and scored on a single by Dakota Harris.

Springfield added one run in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-0. Jeremy Rivas singled. Graysen Tarlow walked. Miguel Ugueto plated Rivas on a single.

San Antonio scored one run in the fifth to cut the lead to 4-1 and made it 4-3 in the sixth. Springfield held on to win the close contest.

The offense scored four runs on 10 hits. Baez was 2-for-3 with a home run for two RBI. Harris was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Rivas was 2-for-4. Harris doubled and scored a run.

On the bases, Baez stole his 34th bag of the season.

On defense, catcher Tarlow made a throwing error. Center fielder Davis had an outfield assist at home plate.

Springfield is 86-50 overall, 43-24 in the second half. They reside first place in the Texas League North after clinching the division on Thursday.

Liam Doyle, the #5 overall pick in the 2025 Draft, is slated to make his Double-A debut on Saturday.
