The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 0-2 on Thursday. The Cardinal Nation’s Players of the Day, the Springfield Cardinals, clinched their division in both halves of the season for only the second time in franchise history. Player standouts include Mike Antico, César Prieto, Ramon Mendoza and Trey Paige.

Memphis Redbirds 3 at Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 4
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds dropped a tight contest to the Jumbo Shrimp in Jacksonville on Thursday.
Quinn Mathews made his 23rd start for Memphis. The left-hander pitched five innings and allowed three runs on five hits, four walks, and two strikeouts. Mathews took the loss.
Osvaldo Berrios fanned a pair in a scoreless inning in relief of Mathews. Left-hander Alex Cornwell yielded a run in an inning. Jack Ralson worked a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts.
The Redbirds plated the first run of the game in the second inning. Gavin Collins singled. Michael Siani grounded into a force play, with Collins out at second. Siani swiped second and moved to third via a Brody Moore flyout. Mike Antico lined a single to bring Siani home.

The Jumbo Shrimp grabbed a 4-1 lead with a two-run fourth and single runs in the fifth and seventh.
Down to their final three outs, Memphis rallied but fell just short. Moore singled and Antico doubled to put two runners in scoring position. César Prieto plated Moore and Antico on his 30th double of the season to bring the Redbirds within one at 4-3.

Torres was stranded at second base as the rally ended there.
The Redbirds scored three runs on 11 hits. Antico was 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Prieto doubled, walked, and drove in two. Wetherholt was 2-for-4 with a double plus a walk. Matt Lloyd singled twice.
On the basepaths, Siani swiped his 25th bag of the season. Antico was caught stealing second. Lloyd was picked off first.
On defense, first baseman Lloyd was charged with an error on a dropped foul ball. Pitcher Berrios picked a runner off first base.
Memphis is 74-65 overall, and 33-33 in the second half.
Friday’s game: at Jacksonville, RHP Curtis Taylor (9-4, 3.30) vs. RHP Morgan McSweeney (3-1, 1.98) 6:05 PM CT.
Springfield Cardinals 1, San Antonio Missions 5
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals fell to the San Antonio Missions at Hammons Field on Thursday, but still had reason to celebrate.
Ixan Henderson started his 25th game for Springfield. The left-hander threw 4 ⅓ innings and allowed two runs on four hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Henderson took the loss.
Edwin Nuñez surrendered two runs across 2 ⅔ innings in relief. Randel Clemente yielded a run in the eighth. Austin Love fanned two in a shutout ninth.
San Antonio struck early with a two-run first and doubled the lead to 4-0 in the seventh.
Springfield entered the run column in the home seventh. Ramon Mendoza lined a single and moved to second on a Jeremy Rivas groundout. Trey Paige doubled to bring Mendoza home.
The Cardinals scored one run on six hits and was just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Mendoza was 2-for-3 with a run scored, the lone Cardinal with a multi-hit game. Paige walked, doubled, and drove in the team’s lone run. Nolan Arenado went 0-for-4 as the DH in the second game of his rehab assignment as he works to rejoin the big-league Cardinals. Brendan Donovan did not play.
The Cardinals did not steal a base.
On defense, Springfield turned two double plays in an errorless game.
Springfield is 85-50 overall, and 42-24 in the second half. They are in first place in the Texas League North Division.
When the Tulsa Drillers lost on Thursday, the Cardinals clinched the second half title in the Texas League North Division. This is the first time in 18 years and just the second time in franchise history (2007) that they won both halves of the season.
