This is a good thing, but don’t be misled that Molina went out of his way to do it. The team pays to bring back all Hall of Famers for induction weekend, so he was going to be in town, anyway.

The Giants are on a roll. They are the hottest team in baseball right now. Will be fortunate to win one game this series.

And I will miss this game. I’ll be down in Jasper for the big clash between the Evansville Reitz Panthers and Jasper Wildcats. The boys from Reitz are favored in this one as they usually field a good squad.

And all of this after the CCFF and a 7×50 Palma Real Cigar at the Amish restaurant out on the lake north of town.

ESPN ranks the top core talent in baseball…and the Cards do not fare well. 24th in baseball and last in the NL Central behind Milwaukee (13th), Cincinnati (16th), Chicago (17th) and Pittsburgh (21st). The Cards fell from 4th in the 2022 rankings to 8th in 2023 and 23rd last year. Only Masyn Winn and Sonny Gray are considered plus players (meaning 3-5 WAR by their system) and there are a number of the usual suspects in the average regular or role player bucket (1.5-3 WAR).

Just checked the Doppler Radar. There is a huge pile of green stuff in the Kansas City area as I type this. It looks like some showers have also just hit the St. Louis are as well. This one will be lucky if there isn’t a delay. Or perhaps a postponement.

I hope I don’t get rained on tonight at the Evansville Reitz @ Jasper game tonight. Something tells me Pugs will call this one 31-14 in favor of the Reitz Panthers.

Appreciate the Kansas City, St. Louis and Evansville, Indiana meteorological reports, Rat. I used to watch the Weather Channel at least an hour a day, but now with Rat giving his reports, I never watch it. Thanks for that, Rat!

I’m calling two games on this fine Friday evening:

    Cards 5 Giants 4
Jasper Wildcats 27 Kenny Reitz Panthers 26

I expect to see the Giants approach this weekend series in a way that will give the impression that they think they have a chance to snag the final NLWC berth. I’d also say that they have a sliver of a chance to play some bonus baseball.

Not a great start tonight back to back dingers SF in the first inning. Looks like Seymours money pitch is the slider.

The Giants are playing this game as though they think they have a chance to catch the Mets.

I always like to hear what’s on the mind of Willie McGee. Top shelf baseball player and a first rate human being.

Cy Seymour flinging a no-no here in the 5th in a 6-0 San Francisco ballgame. Vegas now has us at a 4% chance of winning this one…….but that’s 4 opportunities of victory.

And Jimmy Dale Crooks foils Seymour’s no hit bid with a base hit to leadoff the Redbird 5th……”Dale” doesn’t sound good for Jimmy’s middle name……how about “Lee”? That’s better…..Jimmy Lee Crooks.

    Pugs?
    You were pretty close.
    Jasper Wildcats 20
    Evansville Reitz Panthers 14
    Final

    A mild upset.

And how about the Reds? Trailed the Mets 5-4 in the last of the 9th. Had the based loaded and nobody out. Marte struck out. de la Cruz struck out. Lux grounded out.

That about sinks the Reds in 2025. We’ve been sunk for awhile now.

I watched that home half of the 9th. Shameful AB’s by Marte and La Cruz.

Yeah I knew the Wildcats were going to pull the upset on the road. But that 65 yard Panthers romp on the opening play of the 3rd quarter had me a bit worried. Then you guys stopping them on 4th & 2 at your 16 yard line swung the momentum right back in your favor. Great win, Rat!

    Pugs?
It was a home game for Jasper.

And Reitz did have a 72 yard TD run in the 1st quarter.

After that the Jasper defense sort of dominated.
