The Cubs had a 5-0 lead on Milwaukee earlier today. They currently lead the Brewers 6-4 in the top of the 9th at Wrigley. This is Game #1 of a day/night DH. If the Cubs hang on they will be back to eight (8) games out.

6-4 cubs your unhappy final from Wrigley. Love to see The Crew lambaste the cubbies but good in the nightcap. McGreevy should toss a nice ballgame tonight in south Florida. Let’s call it 5-3 Birds with Saggese throttling a long one to straight-away center field.

And what’s for din-din tonight one may ask? I think I’m heading on over to Arby’s to grab a classic double roast beef sandwich, 3 potato cakes, jalapeño bites with their wonderful Bronco Billy sauce…..and then I’ll swing on through Popeye’s drive thru lane to snag myself not 1…….not 2…….but 3 of their scrumptious apple cinnamon pies.

Atmospheric conditions look favorable for this contest tonight in Miami. Hurricane Erin is not really a factor at this point. However, as I type this it is storming and raining here in SW Indiana. Whitey Herdog is under the desk as I type this.

    Pugs,
Those apple cinnamon pies are starting to sound really good!

Dandy meteorological report, Rat! Where but here can one get an ACCURATE weather report for both the greater Miami area and S.W. Indiana……all in one fell swoop? You have to try Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies, Rat. But I warn you not to buy just one and take it home. For if you do, you’ll find yourself scadadling right on back to Popeye’s to get more. That old Lay’s Potato Chip commercial fits perfectly for Popeye’s apple cinnamon pies……..”you can’t eat just one”.

We always talk about how this team needs pitching going into 2026, in regards to the lineup, I think we need a piece or two that can hit a few dingers. For example, the Cubs have five guys with more home runs than the Cardinals do and a sixth tied with our number one.
I’m hoping this is the most active trading off-season, now under Bloom, that the Cardinals have had in the last 25 years. Quality over quantity, there are plenty of guys to fill in the other spots.

We need a lot of different things Chitown but as the old saying goes “the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time.” It appears to me that we are probably 2 or 3 years away from being a serious contender. I think Bloom should focus on beefing up the pitching first then work on the offense later assuming we can’t do both in one fell swoop. Even with an anemic offense a team can win quite a few games with pitching and defense.

Cards currently lead 4-0 in the 3rd at Dolphin Stadium in Miami.

Herrera has a couple of rbi hits, and Pages has one as well.

I’ll be tuning in to the Reds and Angels game late tonight.

Yeah, I think in building a contender you always put the greatest emphasis on pitching, then secondarily on offense.

Our club just has too many starts by guys who have no business pitching in the big leagues. Now I think Pallante could be a reasonably decent middle reliever, but we give him too many innings as a starter.

On the din-din front, home cooked spaghetti with Italian sausage, garlic bread and tossed salad – home grown tomatoes in the salad. A glass of red wine along side to add the finishing touch. CIF would even approve of this din-din!

Yeah Bike Mike sounds like you got CIF’s menu. Watching our birds now and saw em last nigWe look good playing Miami but I can’t help but feel they must feel at ease playing down there near Rodger Dean. Got alot od gift runs and base hits last night. Looking fundamentally sound too. Wondering if We are good enough yet to stagger our order to counter Left-Right pitching on the starters. So many times lately we aren’t. Lot of times batting at disadvantage. Gormans contributing now and Sagesse too. Wynns looking every day and Walkers showing that power. Pitching has gotten alot better too.

My two favorite lower level guys have hit dingers today, Raniel and Dos Santos.

Any info on if Miguel Hernandez? He hasn’t played in over a week at least.

We need to get a pitching pipeline going to be a legit contender. BDW is not ever going to buy enough pitching and the depth to back it. We have to out produce attrition. We need to develop one or two postseason starters, so maybe BDW can add one when the time comes. Money can’t be getting spent on middle relief. We need it popping out the pipe. Its a tall order.

Games are so awkward in Miami through the broadcast. It is just too quiet and too much of an echo. It just sounds like something is wrong.

Cubs with a 2-1 lead on the Brewers as they bat in the home half of the 5th. Even if the Cubs beat Milwaukee four straight they would still be five games out.

Time to get my Shake n’ Bake center cut rib chop coated with the Pork and then into the air fryer.

It’s less than two weeks until Sept. and I happened to notice that there’s really not what I would term anything close to a neck and neck, fight to finish race for a post-season berth to be found anywhere in the Big Leagues. By creating all of these extra WC berths the entire sense of urgency for a playoff slot has been all but eliminated. There’s no longer any pennant race atmosphere of do or die. What they thought would amp up the stakes and add to the overall intensity, has had the opposite effect and relegated a post-season berth to a common occurence. That’s too bad.

Cards win this one 7-4 down in Miami.

Cubs with a 3-1 lead in the last of the 6th at Wrigley Field. They are threatening again. Looks like they are going to win a DH today.

They may sneak in as a WC. It’s a hu-hum script.
