The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 0-1 on Monday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, DSL Cardinals infielder Yeferson Portolatin, was 2-for-3 including a double, a walk and three RBI. Other standouts include Juan Garcia, Pedro Olivero and Juan Rujano. We also set up this week’s series.

Memphis Redbirds (off-day)
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds were off Monday, as they traveled to Truist Field in Charlotte, North Carolina, for a six-game series with the Charlotte Knights, starting Tuesday.
Memphis will look to rebound after dropping four of six to Durham at home.
Catcher Jimmy Crooks has provided the power in the Memphis lineup and leads the team with 12 home runs and 71 RBI. No other Redbird has driven in more than 53. Crooks’s .271 batting average is third-best on the club, and he ranks second with 92 hits. Bryan Torres leads the team with a .304 batting average. César Prieto is the lone Memphis hitter with over 100 hits at 102.
The organization’s #1 prospect, JJ Wetherholt, has played an impressive 21 games at the Triple-A level. Wetherholt is hitting .295 with 23 hits, six home runs, and 13 RBI. The infielder has also showcased defensive versatility with appearances at second base, shortstop, and third base with the Redbirds. Wetherholt was named the Player of the Month for July by both The Cardinal Nation and the St. Louis Cardinals organization.

On the mound, Quinn Mathews pitched his best game of the season on Thursday. The left-hander threw a season-best seven scoreless innings on just two hits, one walk, and tied his season-high with nine strikeouts. The number three prospect in the Cardinals’ organization earned International League Pitcher of the Week honors for the start.
Memphis is 59-53 overall, and 18-21 in the second half. They reside in fourth place in the International League West Division, 11 games back of first place.

Springfield Cardinals (off-day)
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals were off Monday, as they headed home to Hammons Field for a six-game set with the Wichita Wind Surge, starting Tuesday.
Springfield enters Tuesday with a five-game winning streak.
Catcher Leonardo Bernal continues to power the Springfield offense with a team-best 13 home runs and 60 RBI. Bernal is second on the team in batting average (.271) and has the third-most hits (80). Noah Mendlinger leads the club with a .284 batting average, and is second on the team with 81 hits, just behind Dakota Harris (87). In just 54 Double-A games, Joshua Baez leads the team with 24 stolen bases.
On the mound, Brycen Mautz has thrown the ball extremely well this season. The left-hander is 5-2 with a 2.99 ERA over 84 ⅓ innings and 19 starts. Mautz’s latest start included a 10-strikeout performance across six shutout frames, earning him Texas League Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time in 2025.
Springfield is 69-39 overall, and 26-13 in the second half after winning five of six in San Antonio. They hold a four-game lead in the Texas League North Division. The Cardinals’ 30 games above .500 is a season high.
Last year, Springfield qualified for the postseason with a franchise-best 79-59 record.

Peoria Chiefs (off-day)
The High-A Peoria Chiefs were off Monday, as they traveled to Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, Ohio, to begin a six-game series with the Lake County Captains on Tuesday.
The Chiefs will look to heat up following a 3-2 rain-shortened series loss to Wisconsin at home.
First baseman Brayden Jobert leads Peoria with eight home runs and he tied outfielder Zach Levenson for the team lead in home runs with eight. Outfielder Ian Petrutz leads the Chiefs with 41 RBI, with catcher Ryan Campos just one behind him. Infielder Jon Jon Gazdar has racked up the most hits at 85, with no other Chief over 67 hits.
On the mound, Braden Davis has been dominant since his promotion to Peoria. The left-hander has pitched to a miniscule 0.87 ERA with a 2-0 record in four starts with the Chiefs. The 22-year-old has allowed just two runs and six hits across 20 ⅔ innings and has struck out 21 hitters and walked just five. Davis was named the Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July by both The Cardinal Nation and the Cardinals organization.

Peoria is 43-63 overall, and 17-24 in the second half. They reside in fifth place in the Midwest League West Division, seven games back of first place.

Palm Beach Cardinals (off-day)
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals were off Monday, as they headed home to Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium for a six-game set with the Bradenton Marauders, starting Tuesday.
The Cardinals enter Tuesday following a 4-0 shutout of Dunedin in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader.
Third baseman Cade McGee leads players currently on the roster with nine home runs, 50 RBI and 22 stolen bases. Outfielder Yordalin Pena leads current players with 71 hits and 18 doubles. Shortstop Jonathan Mejia has tallied a team-best five triples.
On the mound, right-hander Leonel Sequera leads pitchers currently on the roster with 88 ⅓ innings pitched and ranks second on the team with 74 strikeouts.
Palm Beach is 52-54 overall, and 20-21 in the second half. They reside in second place in the Florida State League East Division, 10.5 games back of first place.
Tuesday’s game: vs. Bradenton (PIT). Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM CT.
DSL Cardinals 5 at DSL Cubs Blue 6 (8 innings)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals blew a three-run lead in the final inning and fell to the DSL Cubs Blue on Monday.
Juan Garcia started for the Cardinals. The right-hander pitched four innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, no walks, and two strikeouts.
Michael Correa tossed a scoreless fifth inning in relief. Pedro Olivero followed with two shutout frames. Beiker Rodriguez surrendered four runs, three earned, without recording an out in the eighth inning as the Cubs Blue walked off the win. Rodriguez was charged with a blown save and the loss.
The Cubs Blue jumped in front 2-0 with two runs in the bottom of the second.
The Cardinals trimmed the lead in half in the fourth. Royelny Strop and Juan Rujano singled. Sebastian Dos Santos reached on a fielding error, with Strop home on the play.
The Cardinals tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth. Lucas Takahashi drew a walk and moved to second on a Kenly Hunter single. Strop was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Takahashi scored on a Rujano groundout.
The score remained deadlocked at two to force extras in the scheduled seven-inning contest.
The Cardinals pounced with a three-run top of the eighth. Rujano began the inning at second base, and moved to third on a Yaxson Lucena single. Lucena advanced to second base on a groundout from Cristofer Lebron. Dos Santos reached on a fielder’s choice, with Rujano out at home, and Lucena to third. Dos Santos swiped second base and Christian Saez walked to load the bags. Yeferson Portolatin scorched a double to to clear the bases and move the Cardinals ahead 5-2.
The Cardinals were unable to protect the lead, as the Cubs Blue rallied for four runs in the home eighth to walk off the win.
The DSL Cardinals scored five runs on seven hits. Portolatin was 2-for-3, including a double, a walk and three RBI. Rujano was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Strop singled and scored a run. Hunter singled and drew a walk. The lineup was just 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
On the bases, Portolatin stole his 18th bag and was caught stealing second base. Hunter swiped his 21st. Dos Santos snagged his ninth base.
On defense, first baseman Saez made a throwing error. Center fielder Hunter committed a fielding error. Strop nailed a runner at third base from right field. Pitcher Garcia picked a runner off first base.
The DSL Cardinals are 26-24 on the season. They reside in second place in the Southeast Division, seven back of the Marlins, who have clinched the second-half division title. The Cardinals will play a home contest with the DSL Mets Blue on Tuesday.
