The over/under for the Redbirds in this game is 2.5 runs.

You guys taking the over or under?

They pushed 3 runs across today, so the smart money demands that I take the under…

Ah – ex-Cardinal Gomber on the bump.

I feel like the Cardinals are going to knock him around pretty good.

    7-5 Cardinals is my prediction.

Unfortunately for us, this has all of the makings of an exciting and very contentious series. I know that BicycleMike will be attending at least one of these games. And my mother from Colorado Springs said she’s going to Wednesday’s game.

I’ll take the over on that 2.5 runs, Rat……..but not by much. The odds are obviously long, but if tomorrow’s game goes under Rat’s 2.5 runs, then I’ll pay Rat’s membership here at The Cardinal Nation for the next 5 years.

Not a great place for a rookie to make a start in. Just saying.

It’ll be a high scoring affair. Think both teams can get over 10 runs.

In Colorado I would take the over if Sandy Koufax was pitching.

Do we know the corresponding roster move?

It needs to be a pitcher so probably Graceffo since he pitched quite a few innings in the Gray start. Other option is O’Brien or technically John King or Leahy could still be optioned but it won’t be them. Or someone gets traded away today to make room. But I’m betting on Graceffo.

Funny! I loved that, KeepComingBack. I don’t think the runs column on the scoreboard is going to be dented as often as Booyah thinks……certainly not 20+ times. I’m putting the over/under for this one at 8……and I’m taking the under.

Kings mop-up role looks vulnerable. He’s drawing an arb2 salary, in a role better spent sorting thru debuts.

JJ – I am betting King is released after this season. He’s not worth anything in a trade and we still need a lefty in the pen for the remainder of the season so I think he plays out the remainder of the season for us and then gets released. I know I’ll count him as coming off the 40-man when I get around to figuring out who will be on the 40-man for the rule 5 draft.

If things are bad enough that they have to save a few hundred thousand on the draft, then yeah, King is gone.

J-How is our LH minors depth of relievers? If we are auditioning “who we want to see play” currently, is King logjambing anyone?

Blings’ comment reminds me of Gallegos last deadline.

I’ll stick by my original projection but you might be right with a dreaded lefty on the mound. My guess we’ll see some Hampson this evening in CF with some Walker sprinkles in RF.

Lose 2 of 3 and it’s time to deal. Helsley it is rumored that 6 teams were looking at him. My guess is the Phillies were one but with them getting Robertson it’s likely down to 5. Trade with our buddies the Dodgers for one of their injured starters and a bullpen fireballer and get it done. Lol

JJ – depth there is poor now for ready now lefty guys. They could put Matthews on the 40-man and call him up to the pen, but that starts his clock early and takes him out of starting.

It’s too early for Hansen, Mautz, and Henderson in my opinion but I guess they could do it with Hansen or Mautz since both would be rule 5 eligible at end of season and they both may be destined for relief anyway.

There isn’t really anyone else that fits right now. Rom was one of the better hopes but he’s injured again. There is also Matzek who they signed recently but he started out as injured. There are other guys that could fill in but they’d likely be bad (Cornwell, Mosqueda, etc).

Last year Cornwell looked like he was potentially almost on the cusp of being a fringy up and down guy, but he took a step or three back this year.

J-JoJo is the only lefty we haven’t mentioned, and if they deal Helsley, he could finish 26′ with us, and become a FA. But if they get an offer they like for JoJo now, they may take it. We could throw King in the 8th in high leverage right? HAha! Although high lev that late is becoming extinct.

I think it’s possible JoJo is dealt. But yes, that leaves the left side of our bullpen in trouble without both Matz and JoJo. I don’t think the team will want to just give up all hope and plan to be terrible so I think JoJo stays unless the offer is too good to turn down. There’s always the possibility that they get a John King type pitcher back in one of these swaps that at least keeps them afloat from that side.

If Helsley and Maton both get traded I think the default closer becomes O’Brien for the remaining two months. He has good stuff but we don’t know how that translates to 9th inning pressure. It appears we will be in audition mode so why not?

This series could develop into a sort of reckoning. If the Cardinals do well, it’ll simply be what’s expected against a team that is on a pace to lose more games than any Big League team in history. But if they struggle and are embarrassed by a team that looks like it may lose 100 games before the end of August, it’ll be interesting to see if the Cardinal bosses will have the fortitude or character to own up to the fact that they’ve offered up a lousy product to their fan base.

I will be at the Wednesday game, so I will say “hi” to your mom, Pugs! A SABR buddy invited me and another guy to join him in what sounds like great seats.

Meanwhile, I think we will put up some offense in this series. The Rox are just not good at all. Now I have not seen them since May, but they not only struggle on the mound, they don’t catch the ball well. So you can rack up some runs. But still, even bad teams play well at times so who knows what any given game we show.

No TV for me with the blackout.

Would it kill Oli to try a hit and run in order to at least attempt to wake up this slumbering offense?
