The St. Louis Cardinals minor league system was 3-2 on Saturday. The Cardinal Nation’s Player of the Day, Peoria outfielder Ian Petrutz, was 2-for-4 including a double and two RBI. Other standouts include Noah Mendlinger, Jose Davila, Ryan Campos, Samuel Fabian and Romtres Cabrera.

Memphis Redbirds at Toledo Mud Hens (postponed)
The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds’ contest with the Toledo Mud Hens was postponed on Saturday due to inclement weather.
Saturday’s game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday.

Memphis is 48-44 overall, and 7-12 in the second half. They reside in ninth place in the International League West Division. The Redbirds will look to secure the three-game series sweep with two wins in Sunday’s doubleheader.
Sunday’s games: at Toledo
Game 1: LHP Quinn Mathews (2-3, 4.43) vs LHP Nick Margevicius (4-3, 3.60) 2:05 PM CT.
Game 2: RHP Max Rajcic (3-3, 4.07) vs. RHP Wilkel Hernandez. The game is slated to begin shortly after the conclusion of game one.
Springfield Cardinals 4, Wichita Wind Surge 5
The Double-A Springfield Cardinals lost a close contest to the Wichita Wind Surge at Hammons Field on Saturday.
Hancel Rincon started for Springfield. The right-hander pitched five innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits, no walks, and five strikeouts. Rincon took the loss.
Ricardo Velez yielded a run across 1 ⅔ innings in relief. Andrew Marrero followed with 1 ⅓ shutout frames. Left-hander Nathanael Heredia tossed a scoreless ninth.
After, Wichita grabbed an early 3-0 lead, the Cardinals scored their first run in the bottom of the third inning. Noah Mendlinger and Jeremy Rivas hit back-to-back singles. Chase Davis followed with a third straight single to score Mendlinger.
The Wind Surge plated single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 5-1.
The Cardinals moved within two once more in the seventh. Ramon Mendoza drew a walk and moved to second on a Brody Moore groundout. Darlin Moquete doubled home Mendoza for Springfield’s second run. Mendlinger followed with a second consecutive double to plate Moquete and trim the Wichita lead to 5-3.
Springfield inched to within a run in the eighth inning. Chase Davis was hit by a pitch. Joshua Baez scorched a single at 107 mph to put runners at the corners.

Davis scored on a Trey Paige double play ball to move the Cardinals within one at 5-4.
Springfield was unable to rally further in the loss.
The Cardinals scored four runs on eight hits. Mendlinger was 2-for-3, including a walk, a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Moquete doubled, scored, and drove in a run. Davis singled, scored, and drove in a run.
On the bases, Mendlinger swiped his eighth bag.
Defensively, center fielder Baez committed a fielding error. The Cardinals turned three double plays in the game. First baseman Trey Paige made a highlight reel catch in the fifth inning.

Springfield is 57-32 overall, 14-6 in the second half, and currently holds a two-game lead in the Texas League North Division. The Cards look to secure the three-game series win over Wichita on Sunday.

Peoria Chiefs 6 at Quad Cities River Bandits 2
On Saturday, the High-A Peoria Chiefs won their second consecutive contest over the Quad Cities River Bandits on the road.
Jose Davila made his 17th start for the Chiefs. The right-hander pitched four hitless, scoreless innings with one walk and two strikeouts.
Jawilme Ramirez struck out three and allowed one run across 1 ⅔ innings in relief. Local product Mason Burns fanned a pair and did not allow a hit over 1 ⅓ innings to earn his first win at the High-A level. Tyler Bradt yielded a run over the final two innings but held on to secure his first save with Peoria and third of his career.
The Chiefs grabbed a first-inning leage. Travis Honeyman walked and moved to third on a Ryan Campos single. Honeyman crossed home plate on a Josh Kross sacrifice fly to put the Chiefs in front 1-0.
The River Bandits tied the game at one apiece in the sixth.
The Chiefs regained the lead with a three-run eighth inning. Jon Jon Gazdar drew a walk and Honeyman legged out an infield single. Campos followed with a single to score Gazdar. Kross walked to load the bases. Ian Petrutz lined a double to bring Honeyman and Campos home and extend the lead to 4-1.

Quad Cities narrowed the Peoria lead to two in the home eighth.
The Chiefs added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth. Tre Richardson walked and scored on Won-Bin Cho’s 11th double of the season.

Gazdar was hit by a pitch and Honeyman walked to load the bags. Campos brought Cho home via a sacrifice fly for a 6-2 lead.
Peoria never trailed in the victory.
The Chiefs scored six runs on seven hits. Petrutz was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Campos was 2-for-4, including a run scored and two RBI. Kross walked, doubled, and drove in a run. Cho doubled, scored a run and tallied an RBI. Honeyman recorded two walks, a single, and two runs scored.
The Chiefs did not steal a base nor commit an error on defense.
Peoria is 37-51, and 11-12 in the second half. They reside in a tie for fourth place in the Midwest League Division but are just 3.5 games out of first place. The Chiefs will look for the three-game road series sweep on Sunday as Braden Davis makes his Peoria debut.

Palm Beach Cardinals 1 at St. Lucie Mets 11
The Low-A Palm Beach Cardinals fell hard to the Mets in St. Lucie on Saturday.
Ruben Menes started for Palm Beach in his High-A debut. The right-hander pitched 2 ⅓ innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits, no walks, and two strikeouts. Menes took the loss.
Left-hander Jack Findlay surrendered four runs across 1 ⅔ innings in relief. Christian Worley followed with two shutout frames, allowing just one baserunner. Ernie Day yielded three runs and recorded just one out. Angel Cuenca fanned four over 1 ⅔ scoreless innings.
The Cardinals faced a 4-0 deficit early but looked to enter the run column in the top of the fifth inning. Jose Suarez singled and moved to third base on two wild pitches, but was unable to score.
St. Lucie added four runs in the home fifth and three more in the seventh to widen their lead to 11-0.
The Cardinals plated a run in the eighth to avoid the shutout. Rainiel Rodriguez walked and Deniel Ortiz doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Rodriguez crossed home plate on a Cade McGee sacrifice fly.
Down to their final three outs, the Cardinals threatened again. Suarez and Sammy Hernandez hit back-to-back singles. Anyelo Encarnacion walked to load the bags. However, the Cardinals’ rally was cut short with a strikeout followed by a double play to end the game.
The Cardinals scored one run on five hits. Suarez hit two singles. McGee walked and drove in the lone Palm Beach run with a sacrifice fly. Ortiz doubled and drew a walk.
On the bases, Encarnacion swiped his 15th bag.
Defensively, shortstop Encarnacion committed a fielding error. Second baseman Jonathan Mejia and pitcher Worley each made a throwing error.
Palm Beach is 41-45 overall, and 9-12 in the second half. They will look to clinch the series win on Sunday.
Sunday’s game: at St. Lucie. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 11:10 AM CT.
FCL Cardinals 7, FCL Marlins 6 (7 innings, game one)
The Florida Complex League Cardinals won in walk-off fashion over the FCL Marlins in game one of Saturday’s home doubleheader.
Ronny Oliver made his sixth start of the season for the Cardinals. The right-hander tossed three innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on four hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.
Edwin Nuñez allowed a run in the fourth inning in relief. After a long absence, Zack Showalter tossed a scoreless fifth in his first game with the FCL Cardinals this season. Jovi Galvez pitched a scoreless sixth with a strikeout. Aaron Holiday yielded an unearned run in the ninth and picked up the win in the first game of his rehab assignment, as he works to rejoin the Palm Beach Cardinals.
The Cardinals plated the game’s first run in the second inning. Yancel Guerrero drew a two-out walk, stole second base and scored on a throwing error.
The Cardinals added a pair of runs in the third. Hancel Almonte and Andru Arthur walked. Arthur stole second base and Almonte swiped third base on a double steal, with Almonte home on the play via a throwing error. Arthur touched home plate on a Johnfrank Salazar groundout to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Marlins answered with a five-run fourth inning to take the lead.
The Cardinals moved within a run in the fourth. Romtres Cabrera walked and advanced to third on an Almonte single. Almonte stole second base, with Cabrera home on the play with the Marlins’ third throwing error from behind the plate.
The FCL Marlins added an insurance run in the seventh to move ahead 6-4.
Down to their final inning, the Cardinals rallied. Facundo Velasquez and Daniel Rojas and moved up a wild pitch. Cabrera lined a double to score Velasquez and Rojas and tie the game at six. Cabrera swiped third base. Almonte and Arthur drew walks to load the bases. Bracewell Taveras worked the third walk in a row to force Cabrera to the plate and walk off the Marlins 7-6.
The FCL Cardinals scored seven runs on jut four hits. Cabrera was 1-for-2, including a double, two walks, two runs scored, and two RBI. Velasquez and Almonte singled, scored a run, and walked twice. Salazar and Taveras recorded one RBI.
On the bases, Arthur swiped three bases for 12 steals on the year. Guerrero stole a pair of bags to increase his season total to 20. Cabrera also stole two for nine steals on the season. Almonte stole two bases to increase his season total to five. Velasquez was caught stealing second base.
On defense, shortstop Rojas committed a fielding error. Catcher Salazar made a pickoff error. Velasquez nailed a runner at second base from center field.
FCL Cardinals 9, FCL Marlins 5 (7 innings, game two)
The FCL Cardinals edged the Marlins to sweep the home doubleheader on Saturday.
Samuel Fabian started his first game of the season for the Cardinals. The right-hander fired four scoreless innings on one hit, one walk, and one strikeout.
Pitching in relief, catcher Alejandro Loaiza allowed two runs in the fifth inning but held on for his first professional win. Antoni Cuello yielded a run in the sixth. Bruno Lopez surrendered two runs in the seventh but limited the damage to finish the game.
The Cardinals scored in the third inning. Facundo Velasquez walked and Bracewell Taveras singled. Andru Arthur was hit by a pitch to load the bags. Paulo Asprilla drew a bases-loaded walk to score Velasquez..
The Cardinals doubled their lead in the fourth. Yancel Guerrero hit a ground-rule double and took third on a passed ball. Chris Lopez brought Guerrero home on a groundout.
The Marlins tied the game at two apiece in the top of the fifth.
The Cardinals immediately regained the lead with a three-run home fifth. Arthur walked and stole second base. Asprilla drew his second walk of the game, with Arthur to third base on the play via a passed ball. Arthur crossed home plate on a wild pitch, with Asprilla to second. Daniel Rojas walked and Guerrero was hit by a pitch to load the bags. Asprilla scored on a Yaisel Ramos double play ball. Rojas touched home plate on the second wild pitch of the inning to extend the lead to 5-2.
The Marlins inched within two runs in the top of the sixth.
Thanks to wildness on the part of Marlins pitching, the Cardinals stretched their lead with four runs in the home sixth. Taveras was hit by a pitch and came around to score on three consecutive wild pitches. Almonte walked and swiped second base. Almonte moved to third base on a wild pitch and Rojas drew his second walk of the game. Rojas swiped second base and Guerrero drew the third walk in the inning. Almonte scored on a wild pitch. Rojas came home on another wild pitch, with Guerrero to third. Guerrero came home on a third consecutive wild pitch, the seventh of the inning, to increase the Cardinals lead to 9-3.
The Cardinals held off a late Marlins rally in the victory.
The FCL Cardinals scored nine runs on just three hits. Guerrero was hit by a pitch, walked, doubled, and scored two runs. Velasquez and Taveras each singled, walked, and scored a run. Rojas drew two walks and scored two runs. Asprilla drew two walks, scored a run, and tallied an RBI. Lopez walked and drove in a run. Six of the nine Cardinals’ runs scored on a wild pitch.
Johnfrank Salazar swiped his fourth bag of the season. Almonte stole his sixth. Velasquez and Taveras each snagged their 12th steal. Arthur and Rojas each stole a bag to increase their season totals to 13. Asprilla was picked off at first base and caught stealing second base.
On defense, third baseman Taveras and shortstop Rojas each made a throwing error. Catcher Asprilla was tagged with a passed ball. Arthur threw a runner out at third base from left field.
The FCL Cardinals are 23-29 on the season, in fourth place in the FCL East Division, and are eliminated from playoff contention. They are off Sunday and will play a home contest with the FCL Astros on Monday.
Monday’s game: vs. FCL Astros. Pitching probables have not yet been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM CT.
DSL Cardinals (off-day)
The Dominican Summer League Cardinals are off Saturday and Sunday. The All-Star Game is Sunday before the Cards return to action with a contest at DSL Colorado on Monday.
Third baseman Edward Guribe and pitcher Branneli Franco will represent the Cardinals on the DSL National League All-Star squad.
