I guess the MLB’s top dog dimwit has decided that it was a first rate lousy idea to punish Atlanta baseball fans for something that had absolutely nothing to do with baseball. Following the singing of the National Anthem before the 95th All Star game, baseball’s #1 simpleton, Robbie Manfred, should be required to stand at the pitchers mound at Truist Park and offer up an apology followed by a statement detailing precisely how he got to be so incredibly dumb. “Play Ball!”
The All Star starting catcher for the AL who won the HR Derby is hanging some impressive numbers up on the board for any player, but for a catcher, he’s been spectacular both standing in at HP and behind HP. He’s at .253/38/82 thru 94 games and leads the Big Leagues in both HR’s and RBI’s. Caleb Raleigh is at or beyond both Bench and Pudge territory with the season he’s putting together. The Seattle switch hitting GG catcher has also collected 10 SB’s which is more than any other Cardinal player save for Scott. At any rate, the 28 year old Big League backstop is piecing together a season for the ages. We’ll get a look at him in early Sept. at which time he’s liable to have 50 HR’s. Incidentally, he was taken in the 3rd round and was the 90th overall pick in the ’18 draft.
It’s nice to see each player wearing their respective team’s uniform in tonight’s game. A couple of years ago they all wore what looked like the sort of clothing worn in a POW internment camp. Those uniforms were undoubtedly Manfred’s brainchild…
The All-Star game may have lost most of it’s luster over the years, but it’s still nice to see all that talent gathered up on one field and, in my view, it remains by far the best All-Star game of the 4 major team sports in the USA.
Yeah, I still enjoy the All-Star game even though with inter-league play it’s not the same.
Looking at Pete Crow-Armstrong, we were hoping Nolan Gorman would have numbers similar to his by now. Unfortunately it has not happened, and who knows if it will. Funny how some guys figure it out and others who look like they will be good players just never quite take that big step forward.
Back some 40 years ago we had a couple of young outfielders with blazing speed. One of them, David Green, looked to be the better of the two. But it was the other guy, Willie McGee that came on strong.
I do like guys wearing their team’s uni’s. They did a twist with the hats having the offset color on the bill, and that is fine.
The very first all star game in 1933 featured the American Leaguers in “American League” uniforms, but the NL wore their team uni’s.
I don’t think the NFL does an all star game anymore, do they? The Pro Bowl used to be a decent game, but I think they just do skills stuff and a flag football game these days. Too much money at injury risk to play a “real” game.

I was not aware of the differences in uniforms between the two leagues in the inaugural All Star game, but the mere fact that the NL chose to sport the respective team colors is just another fact that proves that it’s the elite of the two leagues…Haha!
I have to say that those Mets caps with the orange bill and the stars on the dome look pretty good. Did I just say I liked a Mets cap? I may need some intense counseling…Haha!
Aroldis still going strong with another appearance in an All Star game at 37 years of age. Another couple nice seasons from Chappy and he almost has to be considered for the HOF.

Not the worst idea but not exactly presented well. Didn’t seem many knew what was going on.
That was a very enjoyable All Star game and I watched pretty much the entire event. I actually liked the “swing off” to settled in. Extra innings in an All Star game is tough as managers want to get as many guys in the game as possible, and if you get into extras you could run out of players, especially pitchers. Seemed like the players were having a lot of fun, smiling and just happy to be part of the festivities.
I even kind of liked the ball/strike challenge. It was quick and did not impact the flow of the game. One thing I did not know was that if any part of the ball hits the strike zone, it is a strike. I thought the entire ball had to be within the zone. Man, all these years and you learn something new about baseball. No wonder umps miss calls a lot. When a ball is mostly out of the zone, you can understand why it would be called a ball.

Well sorry to say this 1TD, but I was wrong. It was the National League that had league uni’s in the 1933 game. I did some research and there are photos available. I thought the AL had the team uni’s, but it was the NL.
Yeah, Bikemike, umpires sometimes miss calls and I’m like any other fan in the context of blaming umpires for everything from being the source of global warming, to a blown call at 1B in ’85…However, all jokes aside, it’s many times amazing how well most of the Big League umpires have performed over the years. Those guys are really good at what they do. And although I have to concede that the instant replay challenge stuff has gone a long way towards correcting almost all of the missed or blown calls, I still don’t like it. I miss seeing managers have all those psychotic sorts of episodes on the field of play…All baseball fans love to see the ol’ heave-ho…Haha!
