If only we could play every game at home we might be a contender.
Maton and Helsley have both been used each game of the series so I am assuming they are unavailable today. We need Fedde to go 8 innings then hand it over to Leahy to have a chance to win. Or if we score 10 runs the bad side of our pen might be able to hold the Crew to 9 runs.
Quintana will be a difficult assignment today. I don’t like our chances in this one. I expect we will fall behind 3-1 around the early to mid innings. And then the bullpen will end up letting it get out of hand.
I am going to call this one 7-2 Milwaukee. And my apologies for doing so.
Din-din today will be a ribeye steak in the air fryer, a couple ears of sweet corn, an ice cold slushy Mt. Dew, and a piece of strawberry pie from the Amish restaurant. Then me and Whitey Herdog will be on the couch for the rest of the game with a 7×50 Palma Real Presidente cigar. Then we will tune over to the conclusion of the Reds and Rockies game.

The issue today is the pen. As GScottar pointed out, the team is probably down Helsley and Maton. It’s also down Matz as he will be put back in the rotation this week presumably. And Leahy has worked a lot lately and probably should get another day off.
That leaves King, O’Brien, JoJo, and Svanson. We better hope Fedde goes at least 6.
20 pitches in it’s 3-0 with one out in the game. 2 walks didn’t help.
31 pitches is what it took. With no bullpen, we may get treated with 3 innings from John King today.
Last week we talked about the rarity of hitting for the cycle. Now let’s talk about a feat even rarer: FOUR homer guys. But 1st here’s a little nugget from the dead ball era:
The 1st to do it was a Boston Bean Eater by the name of Rob Lowe (no relation) that hit out 4 in the gay 90’s, (2 inside the park) and 2 over the fence. Less than 20 guys have done it
The challenge is to name 3 of them for 1 oven mitt, and name a 4th for the complete set.
A little hint: One is a player that even casual fans can name. 3 more are players that all the forum geeks around here know of …but a 5th or more? Oy Ve! You deserve the whole damn kitchen!

Mark Whiten hit 4 HR’s for the Cards against the Reds in the 90’s. That is the only one I am certain about without looking it up.

It isn’t Oli’s job to protect someone’s trade value. He is trying to save his pen for the next series.
His job is to save the pen for the next series. As long as he has throws in that arm. Fedde should be out there. He shouldn’t worry about what his trade value is. Clearly Fedde after getting in a hole in a couple innings needed to go out there for the team and he did actually that.
For the trivia I’ll name two players that ripped 4 taters that I saw do it live on TV and one player who ripped 4 taters and was mentioned as it occurred at Wrigley by Jack Buck during a Cardinal broadcast of a game against the Expos while I was listening on KMOX. Mark Whiten against the Reds, Scooter Gennett against the Cardinals and Mike Schmidt against the Cubs. It still bothers me that the Cardinals allowed a guy with a name like “Scooter” to tater-up 4 times in a single game…It’s shameful! For the fourth player I’ll name Willie Mays who almost everyone should know accomplished the feat.

kudos for getting 4, but you are absolutely gonna hate yourself for not getting 1 all-time great and another big name from the A.L. who was quite well known (and adored by the ladies) in the 50sYeah, Carter, his name is Scooter! How in the heck do you let a guy named Scooter take your lunch money, much less beat you up for 4 HR’s?
On the plus side, King and Svanson both looked good out of the pen. JoJo looked ok but he didn’t throw enough pitches to judge.
On the downside, Walker struck out again swinging at an unhittable pitch. Also, 8 strikeouts looking for the team today was rough. Lots were on close pitches, but they were all strikes.
At least we didn’t lose this one the way Texas lost at San Francisco today.
Tied 2-2 in the last of the 9th at Candlestick Park. Heliot Ramos chops a slow roller towards 3rdbase. 15 seconds later he slid across homeplate with the winning run.
