As a pleasant surprise. It could happen. Saggese has that kind of MLB hitting potential. And the Cardinals are in need of a Burleson-type steady, productive hitter from the right side.

I think Saggese is potentially much more valuable player than Burly. He can play defense. Burleson cannot.

Saggese does sdeem to be a better defensive player than Burleson. However, Burleson is serviceable at 1B and LF. Saggese brings more speed to the lineup than Burly. Burleson was a decent RBI producer last season. Something Saggese needs to be able to do.

I don’t consider Saggese a Burleson type hitter at all. Mainly because Burleson is a platoon hitter and Saggese is not. Whether Saggese will hit ML pitching at all is a separate question.

Burleson will improve against LHP. He’s too good of a hitter, overall, not to do better.

Seems a little shady in here all of a sudden.

Where is ‘ole shady? He was one of the more astute Cardinals baseball posters on both Cards Talk and The Cardinal Nation. The many anti Burleson posters couldn’t stand how right shady was. He must have got blackballed.

Getting back to the subject of the OP. It would certainly be nice for the Cardinals lineup to have Saggese become the offensive contributor this season that Burleson was last. Now, add Gorman and Walker to the progression of Burleson and Winn. Then the Cardinals will have something going.

Since our only hope for a decent season is for some this plethora of 4A guys to turn into big leaguers, I hope you’re right about Saggese.
Unfortunately, I think scouting is a lot better than it was 15 years ago, and any offensive weakness will be known, league wide in an instant. Look what happened to Jordan Walker a couple of seasons ago.
You could argue that a top notch batting could turn him up a notch or two, but if followed the Cards last season you would know that such a coach is no where in sight

Saggese could be a right handed Donovan.

Hope he gets a good opportunity.
